Darrell Honeycutt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Robertson Funeral & Cremation Service - Charlotte on Feb. 9, 2026.
Darrell Bain Honeycutt passed away on February 5, 2026, leaving behind a life marked by hard work, generosity, and a warm, easygoing spirit that made everyone feel at home.

Born on August 18, 1939, in Cabarrus County, NC, Darrell entered the world alongside his triplet brother and sister-the first set of triplets ever born at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, in Concord. From the very beginning, his life was touched by a sense of uniqueness and connection.

After graduating from Bethel School, Darrell built a long and successful career in industrial cutting tools before later joining Ball PanAm, where he especially enjoyed the chance to work close to nature. In the years leading up to his retirement, he owned and operated Carolina Headliners-specializing in automotive upholstery and headliners.

No matter where he worked, people were drawn to him. He had a natural wit, a down to earth way of talking, and a sense of humor that could lighten even the hardest day. He never tried to impress anyone-he simply showed up as himself, and that was more than enough.

Darrell was always outside, happiest under an open sky. He loved nature deeply and had a tender heart for every living thing. An early riser, he was always eager for the first hint of daylight so he could head out to his beloved vegetable garden. Tending the soil brought him joy and purpose. He could grow anything, and he shared most of it freely-giving away vegetables as easily as he gave away kindness. He was never more content than when he was tearing up the ground on one of his Farmall Cub tractors, working with his hands, or fixing anything that needed repair. Restoring Mustangs became one of his greatest pleasures, a hobby that blended patience with the quiet satisfaction of bringing something back to life.

He is survived by his soulmate and wife, Gail, who was the center of his world, and by his three daughters: Melanie Lacanic (Russell), Michelle Forbes (Mike), and Donna Ott (Dan). He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, his triplet sister Carol Davis (Lynn), sister Shirley Lambert (Steve), brother Bill Honeycutt (Vivian) and many special nieces and nephews.

Darrell is reunited in heaven with his parents, Leonard Ransom and Daisy Thompson Honeycutt; his grandson, Adam Fulford; his siblings, Frances Furr, Virginia Kiser, Ralph Honeycutt, and his triplet brother, Merrill Honeycutt.

A man of strong but quiet faith, Darrell was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and the Pilgrims Discipleship Class. His life reflected the values he lived by -faith, honesty, humility, generosity, humor, and love lived out in everyday moments.

A service to celebrate Darrell's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday February 14, 2026 at Hopewell Baptist Church - Legacy Campus - 420 Hopewell Church Road, Monroe, NC 28110. A visitation will follow the service at the Church.

Memorials may be made to: Hopewell Baptist Church, 420 Hopewell Church Road, Monroe, NC 28110 Or Via Health Partners, P.O. Box 470408 Charlotte, NC 28247 with instructions for the memorial to be designated to the "Home Care East Team."

A very special thanks to the Hospice angels who cared for Darrell in his last days: Claire, Petra and Nicole.

I've known Pee Wee and Gail over 50 years. I moved back to my childhood home and I can see PeeWee now riding/tearing up the earth on his tractor or riding his golf cart and picking Ginny and I up for a ride. Always a smile on his face. Heaven gained a special man.

I worked with Pee Wee at Morse for a couple of years until I was laid off. Always felt a connection with him.. We knew a lot of the same people around Midland.

My condolences go to the family
