Darrell Klein Obituary
Darrell A. Klein, age 81, of Council Bluffs, passed away peacefully Friday, January 26th at the Hansen House Memory Care Residence in Council Bluffs.
Darrell was born at home to the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Schmitz) Klein on September 4, 1942, on the family farm near Defiance, Iowa. He graduated from Panama High School with the class of 1960 and continued to be close and active with his classmates for many years.
Upon graduation, Darrell moved to Council Bluffs where he later met his wife, Mary Jo (Green). Darrell and Mary Jo were married in 1964 and later blessed with two sons, Jeff and Todd. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, The Knights of Columbus, and the Council Bluffs Optimist Club. His career included many years with the railroad and grain inspection services.
Darrell cherished time spent with family and friends, his sons, their families, and was very proud of their accomplishments. He loved life, and many would say he never met a stranger. He was a kind, gentle, humble, and caring man, who always gave generously of his time and talents to others.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law Francis and Irene (O'Rourke) Green, and brother Glen Klein.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jo; sons, Jeff and wife Jo of Council Bluffs; Todd and wife Steph of Highlands Ranch, CO. Grandchildren Jacque and husband Jared Knedler of Council Bluffs; Josh Klein and Maddy Klein of Highlands Ranch, CO. brother, Joe and wife Joyce of IA; sister Mary and husband Ken Wingert of AZ; Sister-in-law Sandy Klein of Il. And a host of other family members.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a Vigil Service to begin at 7:00 PM at St. Patrick Church in Council Bluffs on Thursday, February 01, 2024.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church-CB on Friday, February 2, 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Saint Albert Catholic Schools, Saint Patrick Catholic Church, EveryStep Hospice, or Hansen House Memory Care Residence.
