Darrell Pemberton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cook & Son-Pallay Funeral Home - Columbus on Jan. 15, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darrell Pemberton, who left this world on January 11, 2026. Born on September 14, 1948, in Inez, Kentucky, Darrell lived a life marked by kindness, gratitude, and a quiet joy that touched everyone who knew him. His presence brought warmth and light, and his memory will forever remain close to the hearts of those he loved.

Darrell was a man of simple pleasures and big dreams. He had a deep love for horse racing, especially his time spent at Scioto Downs, and he never missed the chance to try his luck with the lottery-always hoping that one day he could use his winnings to take care of the people he cared about most, and maybe even own a racehorse of his own. A devoted Kentucky fan, Darrell enjoyed sports of all kinds and found joy in cheering for his favorite teams. He dedicated many years of hard work to Westinghouse, Federal Glass, and the City of Columbus before retiring in 2015. Above all, Darrell was grateful-always appreciative of kindness, generosity, and the simple goodness in others.

He is survived by his brothers, Larry (Barbara) Pemberton of Harrison, TN., Douglas (Jewell) Pemberton of Wellston, OH; his nieces, Debby Crum, Sherri Pack, Melissa Taylor, Jackie Crum, Stephanie Bustamente, Donna Pemberton; and his nephew, Jim Pemberton. He is also survived by his special friends, Amy and Bonnie. He is reunited in peace with his father, J.C. Damron Pemberton; his mother, Maudie Damron Pemberton; his sister, Doris Crum; and his brother-in-law, James Crum.

Darrell's life was a reflection of steady hard work, heartfelt passions, and genuine care for those around him. We invite family and friends to share memories and photos on his memorial page as we honor his life and the lasting impression he leaves behind. Though he may be gone from our sight, Darrell's spirit will live on in our hearts always.

Darrell's interment will be at Yatesville Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Louisa, Kentucky.
