David Darrell Templeton was born in Lone Grove, Texas, December 11, 1937 to Hiram Ditty and Ila Mae Berryman Templeton. His death, June 16, 2023, was simply a doorway to eternal life with his Savior. He and Johnilee Barry Templeton celebrated 60 years of marriage on May 30th. He proudly served his country for two years in Germany during the Berlin crisis. Darrell was a cowboy for most of his life. He rode the pastures of Granite Hills Hereford Ranch for 20 years, then moved to the Llano auction barn, day worked for area ranchers for over 20 more, and worked a small family herd. His simple faith included active membership in First Baptist Church, and deacon service. Honors include selection as Hill Country Livestock Raisers Association Cowboy of The Year and to the Llano High School Hall of Fame. He loved his family and friends, who knew him as 'Tennis Shoe', Uncle Bo, Cowboy, and PawPaw.
Darrell was preceded in death by his father, mother; brother Clark Templeton, sister Joy Jenson, and two nephews, Randy Jensen and Dane Holley. He is survived by his wife Johnilee; son John David (Kimberly); daughters Johnna (Jon) and Sheila; sister Helen (Wayne) Holley; six grandchildren: Joel, Daniel, Taryn, Ian, Quinton, and Corey, and a number of nieces and nephews. A celebration of life is set for June 22 at First Baptist Church, Llano beginning at 2 pm. Pastor Matt Richards and Jerald Moore will serve as officiants. A graveside service at Board Branch Cemetery will follow. Memorials can be given to FBC Llano, Board Branch Cemetery, or Hill Country Livestock Raisers Association.
