Darrell Vashus - devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, uncle, loyal friend, and man who could fix just about anything - passed away suddenly on October 28, 2025.
Darrell was the youngest of three sons, born to parents Lawrence and Bernice Vashus on January 6, 1954. Born and raised in Glendive, he carried his small-town roots proudly, along with the values that shaped him: work hard, be honest, and treat everyone with kindness (and maybe offer them a Bacardi diet or a cold beer while you're at it).
Darrell was married to the love of his life, Jan, for nearly 48 wonderful years. Together, they were a force - building homes, running businesses, and creating a life full of laughter, adventure, and unconditional love. Their door was always open, and their home was always filled with people, conversation, and a mini poodle or two (they never met one they didn't adore).
Darrell had a knack for making everyone feel welcome - whether you were a lifelong friend or someone he'd just met. He loved a good joke (and didn't mind being on the receiving end), a friendly competition, and the kind of laughter that comes easy when you're among friends.
He was a hardworking plumber who took pride in doing things right - a craftsman who believed that effort and honesty were the heart of any good day's work. After running his own business, he continued his trade with the State of Montana and later a commercial plumbing company, earning the respect of coworkers and customers alike.
When he wasn't working, Darrell was all about enjoying life: brewing his own beer, playing a round of golf, watching a good movie, cribbage (or any version of game night), and cheering on his grandsons from the sidelines. Darrell met life with open arms and an open mind, always ready to try something new and share it with others.
Darrell is survived by his children, Kyle (Kari) Vashus (and their sons Alex and Ethan), Jill (Lucas) Sanchez (and their sons Mason and Max), and brother Doug (Kayrene) Vashus, and several nieces. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Jan and parents Lawrence and Bernice. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the kind of hospitality that made everyone feel like family.
A celebration of Darrell's life will be held in Glendive, Montana, on November 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Silha Funeral Homes. Family and friends are invited to share stories, raise a glass, and honor a man who made life brighter for everyone around him.
