Darrell "DW" Wallace, 52, of Springfield, Missouri, died early Wednesday morning, January 19, 2023, at Birch Pointe Health and Rehabilitation also of Springfield, Missouri where he had been a patient for about fifteen days. He had been in poor health within the past two years.
Darrell was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on February 7, 1970, one of three siblings to the late Genevieve T. Wallace- Cruse. Darrell grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri where he went to public schools, and then moved to Leavenworth, Kansas where he was raised by his uncle, Owen S. Hildebrandt, and his aunt, Wilma J. Hildebrandt, both of Leavenworth, Kansas. He also attended public schools and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1988. Darrell worked at various jobs throughout his life, he truly enjoyed being a truck driver where he experienced driving in various states. He later worked for My Movers in the Springfield area until he became ill.
The best part of DW's years at My Movers was meeting his customers. He never met a stranger and made a personal connection with each one. Besides his physical strength, his outgoing and affable nature made a wonderful impression, and his customers and his crew members loved him. Although his illness slowed him down at work, he remained incredibly positive and shared his sunny attitude with his work family. He will be sorely missed at My Movers.
Darrell never married nor had any children respectively.
Also, surviving is his oldest sister, Theresa Y. Jones of Blythewood, SC, and his younger brother, Nolan L. Cruse Jr. of St Joseph, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his mother, Genevieve T. Wallace-Cruse of Highland, Kansas, and his stepfather Nolan L. Cruse Sr. also of Highland, Kansas.
Darrell was a very outgoing individual who loved interacting with others and watching and going to sports games. He was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, The University of Kansas Men's Basketball, and even the NBA games. Darrell also enjoyed being around his Family. Throughout his journey of sickness, he was cared for by many Families and Friends who loved and supported him throughout his journey. His loving cousin, Czraelalutece D. Womack of Olathe, Kansas was very supportive in the journey of his illness. Darrell was a true gem and loved by many who came and were in his path. He will be missed dearly by his Family and Friends.
His care has been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd. DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory.
