Darren Michael Brouillette, a man who approached life with the same enthusiasm and care as he did his beloved lawns, passed away on November 11, 2025, at the age of 57. Born on June 24, 1968, in the vibrant city of
New Orleans, Louisiana, Darren was the rock and roll spirit incarnate, with a laugh as loud as his music and a heart as warm as the Southern sun.
He was preceded in death by Harry and Rita Willig; Ben and Dot Brouillette; Raymond Denina; Dewey Kaar, and the family's beloved Shih Tzu, Sandi Brouillette. He is survived by his loving wife, Genell Brouillette; his three daughters, Saige Brouillette, Siara Brouillette (Joseph Wohlgemuth,) and Skylar Brouillette (Davin Le); his brother, Bobby Brouillette (Donna Brouillette); his parents, Kathy Karr and Benny Brouillette and many nieces and nephews he held close to his heart.
In Metairie, Darren was known not just for his impeccable grass-cutting skills but also for his numerous acts of service to those around him. He was a dedicated school bus driver to Jefferson Parish for 31 years and hardly ever missed a day of work. He was the kind of guy who knew every child's name and had a joke ready to make the ride to school the best part of their day.
Darren's love for rock and roll was legendary. It was the rhythm of his life, his favorite thing to watch on YouTube and the first thing he blasted when he got into his truck. He made sure to educate all three of his girls on 80s rock. Besides spending time with his family, his favorite thing to do was boil seafood and watch everyone enjoy it. Spearmint snoballs and rocky road ice cream were some of his favorite sweet treats.
His family was his world. He was a great son to his mother, Kathy Kaar, who he spoke to everyday and an amazing brother to Bobby Brouillette. He also loved taking the boat out and crabbing with his dad Bennie Brouillette. His wife, Genell, was his rock, his partner in crime, and the love of his life. Together, they raised their three daughters Saige, Siara and Skylar, to be strong, independent, and hard workers, just like their dad.
Generous to a fault, Darren would give you the last shirt off his back, the last crawfish in the pot, and still find a way to make you feel like you were doing him a favor. He was funny without even trying, often trying to make a point with a perfectly timed quip. Above all, Darren was loving - his hugs were like a big bear, and his presence a constant reminder that love is the best part of life.
As we say goodbye to Darren Michael Brouillette, let's not dwell on the silence left behind but instead crank up the volume on our favorite rock and roll tunes, enjoy a cold coke and remember the man who lived life with laughter, loved with all his heart, and left the grass a little bit greener for all of us. Rock on, Darren, and keep the heavens singing and well fed with crawfish boils and spearmint snoballs.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Mary Magdalen church located at 6425 W. Metarie Ave., Metairie LA 70003 on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 starting at 10:00 AM. A mass will follow at noon.
