Darren Moore Obituary

Born to Dorothy Mae (Cooper) and William H. Moore, Darren Dewayne Moore entered this world on February 27, 1963, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He passed away on January 28, 2026, in Oakland, California.

Darren was affectionately nicknamed "The Champ" by a family friend because of his solid build as a young child. Though physically strong, Darren was, at heart, a kind, gentle, and loving man.

As a boy, Darren loved construction. He could often be found hanging around neighborhood construction sites, and by the end of the week, he would proudly come home with a helmet after sharing lunch with the crew. That early interest grew into a lifelong skill. Darren became known for repairing and building fences for neighbors and friends. He was always quick to lend a helping hand, and his truck was readily available whenever someone needed to move a load.

Darren attended the California School for the Deaf in Berkeley, California, and was part of one of the first graduating classes at the new campus in Fremont, graduating in 1982. After working several custodial jobs, he began his career with Lawrence Livermore Berkeley Laboratory in May 1991. Darren faithfully served there for 34 years and 8 months, until his passing. He was a dedicated and dependable employee who seldom missed work. At one time, he had accumulated over 4,000 hours of sick leave-a testament to his commitment and strong work ethic.

Darren wasn't all work and no play. He cherished family gatherings for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. His hobbies included photography, studying the history of Hollywood and the entertainment industry, and, of course, trucks. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends. In the summer of 2025, he went on a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico, and attended a family reunion in Louisiana.

Darren was a lifetime member of the American Truck Historical Society, where he looked forward to the annual conventions and exhibits, reconnecting with friends from across the country. He attended more than 20 conventions and, in 2024, invited his brothers to join him at the convention in York, Pennsylvania, a trip they will always treasure.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marilyn Gale Jones; his brother-in-law, Vernon L. Jones; his sister, Brenda K. Dixon; his brother, William Patrick Moore; and his nephew, Terry L. Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memory, brothers, David G. Moore (Colette) and Zeddie R. Smith (Lasonja), along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will deeply miss his gentle spirit and steady presence.
