Darryl D. Bowden passed away suddenly on Friday March 29, 2024, in his home in Kalamazoo, MI.
Born in 1964, Darryl was a native of Kalamazoo and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. He
grew up on Harding Place with his aunts Caroline, Virginia, Charlotte and Rachelle Bowden, uncles:
Richard and Irving Bowden. They were all more like siblings. Darryl will be remembered for always
wanting to feed his family. He would often walk, regardless of the weather, to the grocery store to make
sure everyone in the house had something to eat.
Darryl had a quick wit about him and could make you laugh with the things he would say. Back in his
day, he loved to play basketball and worked as a handy man for his landlord for many years. Everyone
knew when Darryl called you a Jezebel you must have gotten on his bad side. He would say this in love
but also to let you know that you had stepped out of line with him.
Darryl is proceeded in death by his father Charlie Ray Elliot, paternal grandparents Cleveland and Gladys
Bowden, aunt Arlene Washington, uncle Karam Shabazz, special great uncle William Bowden and great-
aunt Ollie Canda; cousins Nikel Coleman, Dennis Dixon, Rakiyah Bowden and Rakela Walker.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Dorothy Bowden, four siblings, Monica Bowden, Perry
(Debra) Bowden, and Carla (Claude) Little, all of Kalamazoo, MI, and Cynthia (Mark) Waller of
Lawrenceville, GA: uncles Donald (Pam) Bowden, Richard Bowden and Irving Bowden all of Kalamazoo,
MI; aunt Ruby Dixon, Delores Bowden; Caroline Killingsworth, Virginia Bowden and Rachelle (Theresa)
Bowden and Patty Hoskins all of Kalamazoo, MI and Charlotte (Terry) Truss of Battle Creek, Louise
Brown of Chicago, IL and a special cousin Marlon Mann and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and
friends.
