I've been a Cardinals fan for awhile. DK was my favorite pitcher on the team. He was a class act and was so nice to everyone he met. I had met him for the first time 2 years ago at the Cardinals Winter Warm-Up. He joked with me about getting my picture taken with him. I was so nervous about meeting him, but he made me feel at ease like we were old friends. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He will never be forgotten. Thanks for the memories, DK. We love you.

It is always so sad when a young person like Daryl leaves this world. I have children his age and I know how I would fee if something like this happened to one of my family. The sudden emptiness, the shock, the loneliness are all hard to take, but the Lord does give strength to those left behind, and I am sure that He is watching over Daryl's family and friends too and giving them the strength they need. He will truly be missd by all who had come in contact with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family throughout these darkest of hours. May God bless you all and give you His strength.

Darryl:
The great times we shared during our teenage years back in the Cresta Verde neighborhood in Corona will never be forgotten. You were a great friend, always so cheerful, so happy-go-lucky, and with fond memories we can still see you strutting up Del Norte Drive wearing that goofy, plastic L.A. Dodgers batting helmet that you loved so much. Our hearts go out to Flynn, your children, and Danny & Davis. Farewell Darryl, a.k.a. "Gleema," a.k.a. "The Flooze"--you will truly be missed.

The Life of Darryl Kile has been and continues to be an inspiration to me--he was a man with a huge heart who loved his life and gave of himself in a beautiful way--growing up in Paragould, Arkansas, I have been a life-long Cardinal fan, one of the millions who listen to games on the radio and make annual pilgrimages to St. Louis....Darryl Kile joins "the cloud of witnesses" that inspire us all to live life as fully and happily as we can--he always gave his all--and he blessed us all with his example....

God bless you Darryl and your family during this tragic time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I have been an avid Cubs fan for a long time and grew up watching the cardinals play the cubs here in chicago and in St. Louis. Life is short and although there is a strong rivalry between both teams, your passing is a strong reminder that it is just a game and what is really important is how we live our lives as individuals. God bless you and your family always.

Our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Kile and the children, and the Cardinals. What an enormous void they face in his passing. May they all find peace and joy in memory of Darryl and his accomplishments as a player, a man, and a father.
Still stunned. Suddenly humbled by the realization of one's own mortality. Still hoping to wake up from this bad dream. Forever able to visualize DK's gunslinger stare, infectious smile, and that monster curve.

I'm 3 years older than Darryl Kile was, a mother of a 3-1/2 year old son and I've been a Cardinal fan since I was a little girl (my husband is a life-long Tigers fan - he never lets me forget about 1968!), and I don't remember anything like this happening before (at least in the recent past). I know that this is such a great loss to Mrs. Kile and their children and extended family as well as to the Cardinals organization. I also know that this tragedy doesn't make any sense right now to anyone, but we must remember that God has His own timing, and only He knows what is best for us. I guess that may be very easy for me to say, considering my situation, but it is what I believe to be the truth. All I can do is pray for God to give Mrs. Kile and her family as well as the Cardinals organization the courage and strength to get through this. Please take care & God's blessings to all of you!

I had the pleasure of meeting Darryl Kile before spring training 2000. It was autograph day for the season ticket holders in Jupiter and while most of the players left DK stuck around for almost an extra hour signing for every little kid that came up. I stood down by the right field bull pin and he talked to me for a good 20 minutes about how excited he was for the season that was about to begin. That day I found a new favorite player. I knew when the Cardinals signed #57 they were getting an ace pitcher, I found out that day they were getting an ace guy as well. I was shocked Saturday when I tuned in late and heard the news. I called my brother and we both couldn't believe it. Baseball lost one of the truly good guys. My heart goes out to the Kile family, you'll continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks DK for being such a great person...we miss you already.

Dear DK fans:
I am truly shocked and saddend by the loss of Darryl. I lost my father when I was twenty years of age along with my high school sweetheart-Karen who is forever in my memory.
My heart goes out to Flynn
and family for this great tradegy. I understand your grief and we will pray for you. My twinn sister lost her husband to a plane crash when my nephew was born. Life happens---for good and for worse. Look to the heavenly Father for answers when you're in time of need. This is the only "real consolation' you receive in this world of ours.
My condolences.

As fans of the the Cardinals and of DK we of course only knew him as a pitcher who gave us a chance to win every fifth day. We could see him sit with young pitchers in the dug out, we could read about his leadership, but most of us did not know the man. However, watching a team for 162 games year in and year out there is a strange connection that forms and in St. Louis that connection is alway there. He will be missed greatly.
Darryl's death is a shock no one can fully understand. My heartfelt prayers are with his family, freinds and teammates. I can't even fathom what they must be feeling. My heart bleeds for Mrs. Kile and the children who will not know thier father.
I am so proud of the team for taking the field with broken hearts and playing for thier fallen teammate. The hole that DK left behind will never be filled. The rest of this season, next season and forever baseball will never be the same.
May God bless and time heal those he left behind

Our deepest sympathy to the Kile family, especially his brother Danny, a high school friend of our daughters Lynese and Lisa. We're sure the many tributes from fans, players and others who knew Darryl are some comfort to the family but the loss is a heavy burden. It is a tragedy to see such a hard-working, serious, and successful player and family man taken so young. We're sure he would have continued to have been a role model for future pro players from the "Inland Empire" of Southern California had he not been taken from us. Chicago, St. Louis, and Major League Baseball have handled this tragedy in an honorable manner.

My message is for Danny Kile, brother of Darryl Kile.
Danny, I knew you in L.A in the early 90's when you were a server with me at the Montclair Olive Garden. I remember you telling me how your brother was a ballpayer(with Houston at that time). Little did we both know what a great pitcher he'd become and achieve all the fame and glory that goes with it. I know you had dinner with him the night before, I was glad you were together. My love and prayers are with you and your family. Your brother will be missed by all of us who love baseball. God Bless.

First of deepest sympathy to the Kile family. This is a tragedy that extends beyond baseball, and puts life in its full perspective. It's been a hard week for us die hard true blue Cards fans. With the passing of the soul of Cardinal nation in Jack Buck, and now this complete knockdown blow. So, I just want to thank the Cubs organization from owner's and player's all the way down for their class and sympathy in our time of sorrow. I also want to thank the Cubs fans for the same, you truly are at the top of the list as great fans go. And to show our appreciation I hope the Cubs receive nothing less than a standing ovation next time they visit Busch Stadium, they deserve it. The Cubs fans who sit next to me will get a cold Budweiser on me. And a special thank you to Harry Caray's resturant for putting that memorial ad in the Post Dispatch for JB. Out of all the adds-Budweiser, Rams, Blues etc. that was the one that got me to tear up. And just to let you know we all still love and miss Harry too! Thank you Chicago, your the best! From a Cardinal fan.

I read an article recently entitled "I lost my best friend I never knew". What better way to describe the relationship between the fans and two outstanding human beings -- Jack Buck and Darryl Kile.
