Daryl Marker Obituary
Daryl Wayne Marker, 83, of Trafalgar went home to be with the Lord and the love of his life, Ty.
He was born April 27, 1942 to Marshall and Elizabeth (Duhamel) Marker of Samaria. Daryl grew up with strong faith and deep family roots. He accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 13 at Spearsville Wesleyan Church, the moment that shaped the rest of his life.
He was a very talented high school athlete who played on the Trafalgar High School Boys Basketball Team that won the Johnson County Tournament Championship in 1957-1958 season. He fell in love with and married his favorite cheerleader, Tyra Jean Hicks, on December 9, 1961. They walked through life, always together, until her death August 29, 2016.
After high school, Daryl went to work as a steelworker at Bridgeport/Olin Brass in Indianapolis, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service in 2001. He could always be found on the baseball field coaching one of his four son's teams or attending Indian Creek High School sports. He was a lifelong avid supporter of local sports and frequently attended nearby sporting events. He also enjoyed cheering on the Colts, the Bears, and the Hoosiers.
Family was the center of Daryl's life. He cherished time spent with his sons, grandchildren, and extended family-where laughter, storytelling, and good-natured teasing were never in short supply. His sense of humor and love of family gatherings will be treasured for generations.
Daryl was a devout Christian and a lifetime member of the Separate Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a man that all members turned to for wisdom. A church leader told new members of the church, "See that man? He doesn't say much, but when he does listen carefully. He was a very humble man who spoke softly.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Larry, his sister Wilma (who he lovingly referred to simply as "Sister"), and the love of his life Ty.
He is survived by his four sons: Jim Marker, Mike (Leigh Ann) Marker, Phil Marker, and Andy (Kelli) Marker, seven grandchildren: Jake (Makenzie) Marker, Quinton (Logan) Marker, Noah Marker, Hannah Marker, Matt Marker, Colby Marker, and Ryann Marker, and four great grandchildren: Everly, Lance, Nolan, and Travis.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, November 7, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. A celebration of Daryl's life and faith will be held on Friday at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. conducted by the Revs. Jerry Ridge, Rick Owensby, and John Perkins. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
