Dat D. Luu , 87, of Quincy, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Born and raised in Vung Tau, Vietnam, Mrs. Luu was educated and worked for a time as a nurse before meeting the love of her life, Linh Luu. The couple married in 1968 and began their family. In 1979, they immigrated to the United States and eventually made Quincy their home.
A devoted homemaker, Mrs. Luu dedicated herself to creating a warm, happy, and healthy environment for her family. She took great pride in caring for her home and preparing nourishing meals, always made with love. Food and family were inseparable in her life. Even as her children grew older, she ensured they remained connected through weekly Friday family dinners, a cherished tradition she maintained for decades. Her delicious Cantonese and Vietnamese cooking-ranging from bitter melon and artichoke soups to braised pork, black bean spareribs, and her healing black chicken soup especially when a family member was not feeling well-was always served with joy and generosity. Mrs. Luu often ate last, continually replenishing plates to make sure her family had enough, embodying her selfless and caring spirit.
Beyond the home, Mrs. Luu loved traveling, including multiple trips to Australia, Vietnam, Canada, and beyond. She was an avid fan of TVB dramas, enjoyed trips to casinos, and was a skilled seamstress who lovingly sewed many of her daughter's childhood dresses. In her later years, she especially delighted in dining out with her children and exploring different cuisines together. Known for her strength, determination, and keen sense of style, Mrs. Luu had an eye for fashionable clothing and carried herself with grace. A devout Buddhist, she was a longtime member of Thousand Buddha Temple in Quincy, even moving closer to be near it. She faithfully attended Sunday services for many years until it became physically difficult to do so.
Mrs. Luu was the beloved wife of 57 years to Linh Luu. Devoted mother of Hanh Luu and his husband Leonel Murga, Helen Luu and her husband Gary Wong and David Luu and his wife Lien Tran. Cherished grandmother of Dustin, Dylan, and Darian Luu, and Ethan and Isaac Wong.
