David, as I knew him. We went to grammar school and middle school together in New Haven. Even in 5th grade he had a booming, great voice. His mom was my cub scout leader and spent many great times at his house. I had contacted David in 2009 when he was in Rye.
Very sad to hear of his passing.

To The Family:
"Michael" was one of the first songs I taught my little brother to sing...years ago. He was only about 2 years old at the time. I remember the Highwaymen well and I always enjoyed their music. I look forward to the time when Dave will again pick up his pen and write music and sing beautiful songs to the One who will have made it all possible (Psalm 83:18, Revelation 21:4, John 5:28,29). He will then be able to 'sing to Him, make melody to Him', and 'concern himself with all His wonderful acts." (1 Chronicles 16:9). Please accept my sincere condolences.

The first record album I ever owned was "Hootenanny with the Highwaymen", an album recorded live. It was a wonderful sampler of folk songs. I loved the amazing blending of the singers' voices and their easy camaraderie. The Highwaymen inspired my lifelong interest in folk music. I enjoy all music, but folk music remains my favorite, and the Highwaymen were the very best. Thank you for sharing your gift with us, Dave!

I was so saddened to hear of the death of Dave. He was my camp counselor in the '60's at Camp Shwayder, Idaho Springs, CO. This was right when "Michael Row Your Boat" had just been released and not a single camp meal went by without singing a "Michael." I will now get out my old Highwaymen record and bring back warm memories of a very kind and entergetic man. Lesley Cohen Flaks, Colorado Springs, CO

Dave Fisher and the Highwaymen were my favorite folk group of the 60's, when I was a teenager. I was fortunate enough to see the Highwaymen when they were at Irish Fest in Milw a few summers ago. I have 52 Highwaymen's songs on my iPod, which I listen to whenever I travel. The group's music was my inspiration to take up guitar, and play acoustic music, even to this day, while in my 60's. My condolences to his family. I will always remember the highwaymen as being a part of my youth and musical roots.

At our sister Monica's funeral in December, we sang one of her favorite songs, "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore". His music helped us to send her on her way and she was there to welcome our own brother Dave in January and then Mr. Fisher when he arrived for the milk and honey on the other side.

What a tragic loss !!!!
I was raised by a wonderful Mother who played guitar during our childhood. We still sing Dave's hits. Cotton fields is sung at every family gathering. It has become a tradition in our family, passing it down generation after generation. My 6yr old granddaughter loves it as well. Your music will be remembered for years to come. God bless all the family and know you're in our thoughts and prayers.

Remembering Michael Row the Boat Ashore is easy for me. I play it a lot on my keyboard even now and years ago during the Vietnam era we used to have hootenannies, my friends and i & at that time i played guitar. It was a fun time, for us. What a shame Dave Fisher was taken from us. I am sure he suffered tremendously with his disease. Please Lord, Remember Dave Fisher and take him by the hand as you cross the Great Divide.

My deepest sympathy to Mr. Fisher's family and friends..Beautiful music. I loved that song, "Michael......."
