David and I were swimmers together at Springfield College and we would be in practice, laughing and talking about nothing important. Later we both became Varsity Swimming coaches, and our teams competed against each other at UNCW. I had a fairly new team; however, we had a few swimmers that were competitive. David was a gracious winner, and both our teams enjoyed each other's company. I believe David is enjoying eternal life with the Lord.

We miss you every single day; still laughing, still crying and still loving you. We know you have a first class heavenly swim team going by now. You will never be forgotten Dave. We love you. Bill

I hired and worked with David at Allegheny College. He was an outstanding coach, educator and friend. He was destined for great things and success came his way early and blossomed into a career to envy. God bless him, his wife and Family.

Thousands of children learned to swim in the program Dave Allen started with his wife Ellen at UNC-W. I´m confident many families , like ours are grateful for his life and service to our community , especially our children. My warmest condolences to the Allen family.

He was my brother, and my good friend. I will miss his humor, his positive attitude, and his infamous grin. Dave always had an easy going attitude that allowed him to work through anything with charm and humor. Life was meant to be fun and he made the most of it. He had a passion for life, and his work, and he loved his family.

There are many adjectives that can describe Dave, but Honorable, Humble, Happy and Dedicated stand out for me. He never complained, and he never bragged, He made a positive impact on many, many lives, and we will always feel the pride of that. We love you Dave, and will miss you always.

Thank you Ellen for your phenomenal strength and all your love.

Loved Coach Allen! One of the best teachers I've ever had. He was tough and you earned your grade. I always admired
him and the skills he taught me in the pool were some of the most important things I ever learned. He could turn a great swimmer/diver into an even better one. RIP Coach!

We met Dave & Ellen when they moved into our neighborhood. Our friendships developed immediately, which was easy with such an energetic and friendly couple. Eventually our kids became friends, playing a lot of neighborhood sports. This entire family is one of a kind and we are fortunate to have known them all these years. Dave will be missed but never forgotten.

To Ellen and the Kids and Grandkids. We were blessed as neighbors, church friends and parenting our children of equal ages. Your walks through the neighbor in early morning and at twilight always gave me a smile with a wave of your hands. Thank you for a memory of what a truly loving couple. You were a team in this world of kindness. Love Rob and Pam Greenough

Coach Allen was a great coach and wonderful caring man. My daughters, Brittany and Logan both loved him as he taught them swim lessons from age 3 until 12 and then they both worked under him as swim instructors for a few years. He had such a way with children and was very respected! Our prayers go out now to his family for our Lord's comfort, strength and peace. Rest in God's hands now Coach Allen.

Coach guided and was there for our daughter for the four years she was on the uncw swim team. Such a kind and caring man that truly cared for all his swimmers. Always a positive influence on them all.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
