SMITHFIELD
ALLEN, David B., 68, of Smithfield, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Hope Health, Philip Hulitar Inpatient Unit, Providence. He was the husband of Nancy (McKee) Allen, and they had been married for the past 45 years.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late William and Agnes (Drover) Allen. He resided in Smithfield for the past six years, previously residing in West Warwick, Warwick and Cranston.
Mr. Allen was a self-employed business owner in the financial services industry for over 30 years.
David was an avid golfer, and a gifted sportsman, who played tennis in college and used his gift in a coaching capacity during his lifetime. He coached tennis at LaSalle Academy, and held private lessons for elite level athletes around the country. He also coached basketball at Day Spring Christian Academy. He was a current board member of Harvest Hands Ministry in Mexico and was extremely passionate about helping the less fortunate during his many mission trips to Mexico, as well as the Dominican Republic. He was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for over 25 years and an active leader in many church activities including softball and basketball. Those who love him will always remember his positive attitude, encouraging words and his strong foundation of faith in God.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his son, Michael D. Allen and his wife Shannon of Atkinson, NH; his daughter Lindsay C. Gardella and her husband Gareth of Scituate, RI; his brother, William D. Allen and his wife Jennifer LaFlamme of Jamestown, RI; his sister, Jane Bishop of Key West, FL; his six grandchildren, Maya Lane, Jude Allen, Brooke Gardella, Levi Allen, Sadie Gardella, and Caleb Allen; as well as several nieces and nephews and beloved friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to David's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 9 AM to 11 AM in the Swan Point Cemetery, Historic Chapel Blackstone Blvd, Providence. A prayer service will be held at 11 AM. Arrangements are under the direction of the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home. At the request of the family masks are encourage, but not required.
