David Anthony Auld

On Wednesday, December 22, 2021, David Anthony Auld passed away unexpectedly and peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on January 6, 1971 and is the beloved son of Mary Jo McMahon Weiss , and is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Anthony Auld, and stepfather, John Philip Weiss.

He is survived by his true love, Jennifer Teodori Growall and their children, Jody, Elsie, Henry, Beatrice, and Penelope Growall.

Also grieving this tremendous loss are his sister, Kathleen Auld Schreiber (Greg); and his brothers, James L. Auld (Stacey), and Gerald W. Auld (Pamela); his dear, Aunt Carol A. McMahon; his Uncle Leo and Aunt Ann McMahon; many cousins; and the entire Teodori family, Terry, JoAnn, Eve (Kevin), Angie (Chis), Carrie (Jay), Joe (Chance) and Nick.

David was a 1986 graduate of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Grade School in Scott Township, and was a 1989 graduate of Mount Lebanon High School. He attended the University of Pittsburgh for two years before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he graduated at the top of his class and was selected by his superiors to lead his class of several hundred at their induction ceremonies at Naval Station Great Lakes in Great Lakes, Illinois.

David elected to enter the United States Naval Nuclear Power school and was selected again at the top of his class as a crew member on board the USS Sandlance Nuclear Submarine, SSBN (submersible ship, ballistic missiles, nuclear powered). He served as a Sonar Technician (ST), responsible for underwater surveillance and assisting in safe navigation and aid in search, rescue and attack operations. He was stationed in Groton, Connecticut and served his country proudly for four years, receiving many medals and accommodations. A highlight during David's military service was the honor of being chosen to take part in the decommissioning of his submarine, the USS Sandlance. Once honorably discharged from the Navy, David completed his studies at Robert Morris University, via the G.I. Bill and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. After his graduation from college, he accepted a position in Cincinnati as an IT Specialist, but it wasn't long before he received another career offer in Pittsburgh where his family resides and where he wanted to return.

In 2003 an offer was made, by his brother Jimmy, to join him in a new business venture, a restaurant called Harry's Pizza. The restaurant became a local sensation in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Buoyed by David's cooking skills, people skills, and his love for each employee that has had the privilege to work beside him, Harry's Pizza has continued as a successful McMurray establishment to this day.

In a private conversation on Friday, December 17, 2021, David emotionally expressed how grateful and blessed he has been to work in the restaurant these many years with his five children and each one of his nieces and nephews, all of whom grew up in Peters Township, a rare occurrence this day and age. David is the devoted loving uncle and trusted friend of Daniel, Ian, Allison, Conor, Maddie, Lindsay, Ryan, Nathan, Katie, Kelsey, and Christian, whom have all treasured working with their Uncle Dave and learning so much from him over the years. In addition to the Growall, Auld, Jackson/Schreiber and Layton children, there are many teenagers and young adults who have worked with David these last 18 years and who also thought of him as their "Uncle Dave". He loved each and every one of "his Harry's kids" and thought of them as his own.

He is loved dearly and will be sadly missed by the Teodori nieces and nephews: Cullen, Jonah, Tate, Mariah, Michael (Danielle), Becca, Sarah, Sam, August, Allison, Francis, Paul, Ceci and Basil.

David was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and a gifted athlete. As the competitive, youngest brother of four children, he was an overachiever in all sports and in particular, hockey and baseball. Although 20 plus years older than his "Harry's crew and alumni", he was known as THE force to be reckoned with at the annual," Harry's Pizza – Thanksgiving Day Turkey Bowl.

His talents were not limited to athletics and also included singing, music composition and playing the guitar. David was a musical perfectionist. His epic performances and beautiful harmonies, shared with his close friend and brother, Ron Zinski, were legendary and brought so much joy to the crowds of family and friends who cheered them on at each performance.

David served his community tirelessly and donated his time and pizzas to many charitable organizations and fundraisers. Local churches and businesses including the Washington City Mission, the American Heart Association, many local police departments, fire departments and EMT services to name just a few, were the recipients of David's generosity and it meant so much to him to be of service.

Selfless, kind, intelligent, hard-working, funny, honest, musically gifted, athletically talented, loyal and loving partner, devoted father and dog-dad to his cherished pups, Clyde and Tuccer, handsome, free-spirit, fearless, tender-heart for Christ and champion of the underdog are just a few of the words to describe David and his character. He will be missed by his loving family, and all who have ever had the opportunity to talk with him and laugh with him, to work with him, to sing with him, and to love him. Our loss is beyond comprehension, but we know that in these darkest of days, our loving God will carry us. He promises to use our affliction for His good in this waiting and watching world that needs love and comfort more than ever. Until we meet again, Baby Brother.

Interment, immediately following, at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
