David P. Beenken- Draper, age 72, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away in the comfort of his own home on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
Per David and his family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A family led memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday February 7th, 2026, starting at 11:00A.M. at Journey Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Family and friends are also invited to attend a visitation one-hour prior also at the church. Memorials in David’s name may be directed to his family for a later designation. David Paul Draper was born on March 29th, 1953, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Ralph and Eleanor (Hyndman) Draper. David attended Mt. Pleasant High School and graduated with the class of 1971. David continued his education graduating in 2007 at Judson University in Illinois. On November 12, 2011, David was united in marriage to Gene Lee Beenken at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Dubuque. David was a long-time finance account manager, and he had the opportunity to work for several companies, including Borg Warner, TransAmerica, GE, and Wells Fargo until his retirement in 2022.
In his free time, David really enjoyed cycling and had participated in RAGBRAI (The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa) since the 80’s and 90’s. He also enjoyed traveling all over the country for his two businesses which included: 2 Guys Yarn Company (since 2014) & Old Man Quilter (since 2023). David will be remembered as a pet lover who enjoyed spending time with his pets. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
David is survived by his husband Gene Beenken- Draper; his two children from a previous marriage: Heidi (Brad) Huyser and Timothy (Abby) Draper both of Ankeny, IA.; his four grandchildren: Owen, Ella, Hendrik, and Silas; his siblings: Stephen (Laura) Draper and Martha (Vernon) Tannahill; his aunt Charlotte (Larry) Laird; his previous wives: Cindy Pearce and Faye Draper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Eleanor.
