David Bohne Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service on Mar. 2, 2023.
David R. Bohne passed away suddenly on February 27, 2023 at the age of 68. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 38 years Kim Bohne, daughters Alison (fiancé Jesse Horner) Bohne, Andrea (Sean) Wheeler, brothers Thomas Bohne, John (Mary) Kotan and one grandbaby on the way. Dave was preceded in death by his brothers Lester C. Bohne, Glenn Bohne and sister Cindy Grotovsky.
Dave was born in 1954 in Chicago, IL to the late Lester W. and June Bohne. He attended Crab Orchard middle school in Palos Heights, IL and Harold L Richards high school in Oak Lawn, IL. He attended Moraine Valley Community College and then transferred to the University of Illinois where he graduated with a BS in Economics and a minor in Political Science. He also studied at Illinois State University where he held a position as a teaching assistant in Economics. During this time Dave held a variety of jobs and was able to finance his college education himself.
After college he worked long hours managing a Ground Round restaurant. Eventually he found a job that he enjoyed at Mono Group Inc, an industrial pump company. Dave was mechanically minded and good at analyzing and figuring out solutions to problems.
In 1985, Dave married Kim Bohne. They lived briefly in Addison, IL and then moved to Lombard, IL where daughter Alison was born. A few years later they moved to Grayslake, IL where second daughter Andrea was born.
After a brief stint as a realtor, Dave returned to the pump world as pricing analyst and then product manager for Blackmer/PSG in Grand Rapids, MI. With this job, the family moved to Michigan in 2004 where Dave worked until retirement.
Dave was an avid home handyman and did many DIY projects. Another one of his favorite things was road tripping and planning long trips to visit family and friends.
Dave enjoyed brewing his own specialty beer and took pride in constructing his own equipment for the brewing process. He also had a passion for anything to do with airplanes especially WWII planes as his father was a B-17 pilot.
A fairly recent hobby Dave picked up in retirement was birding. He loved to photograph them and kept extensive lists of birds he had seen.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 3:30 pm on Friday, March 10th at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 4291 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 with visitation beginning at 2 pm.

Our deepest sympathies to Kim and family. Still shocked to hear about Cousin Dave. So glad we had been able to spend time with them last summer in Indiana. Dave had us laughing all weekend, his sense of humor was always great. We reminisced of our childhood years back on the family´s compounds. God bless Dave, deepest sympathies

Kim, Alison, and Andrea,
Having known Dave 29 and 40 years respectively, we can't express how saddened we are. We still haven't gotten over the fact that he's left us. There are many things we will remember about him, but mostly how very much he loved you all, and wanted the very best in life for you all. He has left a hole in our lives and we miss him greatly.
We love you.
