David E. Bomboy, 98, died Tuesday, March 4, in Lewisburg, PA. He was born in 1926 in Bloomsburg, PA, the son of D. Lloyd and Margaret Bomboy.
David graduated in 1944 from Bloomsburg High School and from Susquehanna University in 1948. He graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg and was ordained in 1951. He married Betty Smith in Woodsboro, MD in 1951.
As a Lutheran minister he served: the Stoystown Parish of Grace, Horner and Zion (Hoffman) Lutheran Churches from 1951-1955, The Everett Parish of Zion (Everett) and Mt. Zion (Breezewood), from 1955-1968, The DuBois Parish of Lebanon and St. Paul which consolidated into Christ Lutheran Church, from 1968-1980. The Addison-Confluence Parish of Trinity (Confluence), St. John (Addison), and St. Paul (Fort Hill), from 1980-1986, and the Grubbs-Freeburg Parish of St. Peter (Freeburg) and Botschaft (Mt. Pleasant Mills), from 1986-1992.
After retiring in 1992, he continued to supply in the Upper Susquehanna Synod and served as Interim Pastor for the Mezeppa Union Church in 1993 and then in the White Deer Parish in 1995.
Pastor Bomboy served on various committees of the Central Pennsylvania Synod of the LCA and then in the Upper Susquehanna Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in American.
He is survived by children, John, Pearl, and Paul, 2 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by brothers, Isaiah and Charles, a sister, Pearl, his wife, Betty, a son, James, and 2 granddaughters.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 1pm at Faith Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, PA.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
