David Boturla Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 7, 2025.
David A. Boturla, 65, of the Villages, Florida passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025 surrounded by family and friends. Originally from Hazlet, NJ, David loved life, had a personality that could fill a room, and enjoyed helping others. He enjoyed the limelight and was featured in articles in the local newspaper the Daily Sun and was even interviewed by the Villages News Network.

David is predeased by his parents John and Constance Boturla and his brother Kevin Boturla.

David is survived by his partner of 21 years, Jill Grossguth, his brothers John Boturla and Dean Boturla, his sisters Gail Boturla and her fiancé Peter, Dawn Boturla, and Dana Amundarain and her husband Rafael. His is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David courageously fought MDS for the past year and we celebrated when he was in remission. Though his remission was brief, we find comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering or in pain. He is finally at peace.

David had a 40+ year long career in the retail industry working for companies such as Pathmark, Shoprite, Nabisco, and Rite Aid before retiring to the Villages three years ago. He became a parishioner of the St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he attended with his brothers Dean Boturla and John Boturla. He enjoyed participating in the activities the Villages has to offer such as water volleyball, bowling, golfing, listening to music around the squares, and simply enjoying golf cart rides around the community with his dogs riding in the back. He would even sneak a few golf cart rides with just his precious Coop Coop.

Though he was in the Villages only a short time, he formed strong relationships and had several close friends. David, a long time Yankees fan would often say he can't believe one of his best friends is a Boston Red Sox fan. Every morning he would open his "Café" in the garage to share a morning coffee with friends and neighbors. He even thought to keep a water bowl and dog treats handy to include pets as well. Whenever someone walking a dog passed by the dog would come up the driveway to say hello to David and get their snack.

David had a passion for music and was a longtime fan of The Grateful Dead. As a teenager, a co-worker first introduced him to their music and from then on he attended countless concerts over the years. David turned his passion into a reality when in his first year in the Villages, he created a new social group for fellow "deadheads" fondly called The Village Deadheads where he served as President. Not only did he share his love of music but also his willingness to give back to the community. His club participates in several charitable programs such collecting donations for the Wildwood Food Pantry, Adopt a Highway Program, Wreaths Across America, just to name a few.

In lieu of flowers, the Village Deadheads will be honoring David's memory through a scholarship fund in his name. Anyone interested in donating to the David A. Boturla Music Scholarship Fund can send an email to [email protected] or [email protected] for further details.
