David Brewer

1953 - 2023

Dwight David Brewer, known to his loved ones as David, passed away on August 13, 2023, at the age of 70 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born on February 5, 1953, at his great grandmother's home in Stilwell, Oklahoma to Paul and Mary Lou (Elsey) Brewer.
David was a fun-loving individual with a great sense of humor. He had a knack for sayings and phrases that brought joy and laughter to those around him. In the 1990s, David owned a Christmas Tree farm with his family, that was sure to spread joy to many.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura E. Brewer Reece, her husband Jacob and their expected twins. He is also survived his son Thomas Brewer. His children were the light of his life. David also leaves behind his special friend and sweetheart, Mary Lewellen, who brought him much happiness. He is survived by his older sisters Rebecca McAdams, and her husband Corky, and Pamela Grant and her husband Steve, and his younger brother Eddie Brewer and his wife Brenda. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Annie Brewer and former wife Julie Brewer.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Lou, as well as his brother, Paul Brewer.
David graduated from Okmulgee High School in the class of 1971. At the age of 19 he discovered his draft number was 5 and so he joined the Air Force. David served his country with honor and dedication.
After his military service, he began his professional journey at PSO before pursuing his studies at OSU-IT. This allowed him to embark on a successful career as a mechanical engineer. With his expertise, he took on contract work and had the opportunity to work in various locations, including the DFW area, Chicago, California, and China. David moved back to Okmulgee after one of the large California wildfires took his home and all of his belongings, including his beloved Harley Davidson. His son, Thomas, who was visiting with him at the time, were able to save few things including his cherished Martin guitar.
In his free time, David took up many hobbies including leather tooling, oil painting and his favorite, gardening. His knowledge of horticulture was extensive, and he took great pride in cultivating beautiful plants. He had an eclectic taste in music and was a gourmet cook. David also had a fondness for the classic television show Gun Smoke and when he was in California, he loved riding his Harley all over. Above all, he adored his family and cherished his friends and enjoyed the time spent with them.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate David's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home Chapel.
