Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oakdale Funeral Home - Camden on Nov. 7, 2025.
Mr. David Aldredge Brewer, age 89, of Big Sandy, TN passed away peacefully with family in the late hours of Thursday, November 6, 2025. David, or commonly known as Aldredge was to have celebrated his 90th birthday on November 23. He referenced on several occasions, who would have thought I would have lived this long just eating beans, potatoes, and cornbread. He was born to John Terral "Mutt" and Mary Laretta Hutchison Brewer in Big Sandy and resided near his birth home his whole life with the exception of brief stints in Michigan with his newly wed working at Ford Motor Company.
David was a retired maintenance worker from E.I. Dupont and was known as Henry Aldredge akin to the 1940's TV character Henry Aldrich. Dupont served him and his family the strong will to be safe and be on time. David was a devout Methodist and a member of the Flatwoods Methodist Church where he enjoyed serving as the song leader, big dinners and homemade ice cream and more. He was also a master gardener, often planting the potatoes in early February, while cropping beans, corn, watermelons, strawberries, peas and more. His thoughts on the 4th of July were first to pick and put up green beans. He kept his large yard immaculate and free of the worrisome obsession of pinecones. He also took pride in always keeping his large cars pristine.
David Aldredge married Camilla Jean Bomar in July of 1955, in Corinth, Mississippi and celebrated 64 years of marriage. Camilla drew his attention by sitting on the hillside at her home near Florence's grocery in the Liberty community and waving at him continuously. She declared him as her boyfriend and in her yearbook, she lamented that she wanted to marry a Big Sandy boy and have a bunch of little basketball players. Aldredge and Camilla did raise two boys, Tony and Steve. David's passion for baseball led him to include Steve as Stephen Marty Brewer, for the great major league player Marty Marion. David had a passion for baseball and basketball driving his boys into sports and coaching little league and biddy junior league basketball. His love for following the Atlanta Braves and critiquing the Braves games brought dry humor and wit which would have served them well as a manager. He received his first transistor radio in 1947 and listened intently with great knowledge of major league baseball. He also loved the Vanderbilt Commodores, particularly in basketball and followed them intensely.
David was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J.T. Brewer; sisters, Dayle Hudson and Inez Hudson; and his beloved wife, Camilla Jean.
He is survived by his brother, Kelly (Janis); sister, Bonnie Lou Jones; as well as his sons, Tony (Stephanie) and Steve (Mary Jane); his proud grandchildren, Jason, Taylor, Chase, and Heather Constantos (John), and Jonah; great grandchildren, Eleni Camilla and Tristan Constantos; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws. His tightness of love for the entire family was unmatched.
