David Briggs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremations Services, Inc. - Wesleyville on Sep. 8, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

David E. Briggs, age 88, of Erie, left this earthly realm to join the Heavenly Choir on Sunday, September 7, 2025. He was born in Erie on March 7, 1937, son of the late Robert and Edith Briggs. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Karen Ruth Haupt Briggs, whom he adored; and his brothers, Chuck, Bob and Larry Briggs.

A life-long Erie-ite, Dave was a proud Strong Vincent Colonel, Class of 1955, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. He went on to Michigan State University, Class of 1959, and returned to Erie to begin his career as an Erie Insurance "company man", and then independent agency owner until 1994. Dave was a competitor who enjoyed golf, basketball, track & field, softball and bowling. When he could no longer participate as a player, he loved being on the sidelines or in the bleachers supporting others. Dave was a choral singer and bell ringer and also greatly enjoyed travel, playing cards and board games and bird watching.

Dave is survived by his daughters, Debbie and Diane. When the girls married, Mike Loney and Ron Sutton were seamlessly welcomed into the close-knit family. The joy of his older-adult life was becoming Granddaddy to Megan (Andy Metzler), Daniele (Kyle Trexler) and Michael. Most recently, he was promoted to Great-Granddaddy with the arrival of Beatrix in 2023. His family and friends witnessed his faith in action; Dave was so jolly, reliable, consistent and tender-hearted. His surviving sister-in-law, Stephanie Rose Briggs, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends will find comfort knowing that he loved them dearly, just as they adored him. Dave's twinkling eyes, witty charm, amazing baritone voice and whistling will be greatly missed.

Friends will be received at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 250 West 7th Street, on Friday, September 12th, from 4 to 8 pm. Further visitation will be held at the Church on Saturday, September 13th, from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Service there at 11 am. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 250 West 7th Street, Erie, PA 16501. Condolences may be sent to www.dusckasfuneralhomes.com.
