David Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dorman-Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home on Mar. 27, 2026.
David Pete Brown, 72, of Starks, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on May 6, 1953, David was a man deeply rooted in family, faith, hard work, and laughter.
David shared a remarkable 55 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Monica Brown. Together, they built a life centered on love, resilience, and unwavering partnership. Their journey was filled with simple joys and meaningful traditions, from traveling side by side to spending their early years playing and coaching softball, a passion they both shared.
He was a true family man whose greatest joy came from gathering his loved ones close. Whether it was a backyard cookout, holiday celebration, or an impromptu weekend get-together, he thrived on the laughter, stories, and warmth that filled the room whenever family was near. He was famous for boiling the best crawfish around, seasoned to perfection and always shared generously with anyone lucky enough to be at his table.
Hardheaded yet endlessly fun and funny, he had a larger-than-life personality that could light up any gathering. He loved life fully and lived it on his own terms, unique in every way. He found peace on the water fishing, excitement in watching his favorite sports, and quiet satisfaction curled up with a good book. His impressive gun collection reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and history, and he took pride in maintaining and sharing his knowledge about it.
David was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, who honorably served his country, carrying the values of strength, discipline, and a sense of duty. Later, he built a respected career as a millwright, retiring from Union Hall 2232 after years of skilled, dedicated work. In his community, he was a valued member of the Vinton Masonic Lodge 364, forming lifelong friendships and bonds of brotherhood.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, his generous heart, and the way he made everyone feel like they belonged. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in every shared meal, every family gathering, and every story told with a smile.
He is survived by his wife, Monica Brown; children, Kris Douget and husband Roger, and Andrea Havard and husband Wayne; grandchildren, Lauryn Young and husband Joshua, Levi Hyatt, Hayden Spoonemore, and wife Krista, Macy Abrego, and Canaan Spoonemore; Emma, Jude, Jackie, Josi, Drew, Andi, and Ava; mother, Loretta Brown; siblings, Scott Brown and wife Arlene, and Robbie Phillips and husband Travis.
He is preceded by father, Pearley Lee Brown; mother, Nira Brown; siblings, Rodney Brown, and Maxwell Brown.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2026, at Dorman-Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 8808 Highway 87 North, Orange, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Dorman-Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 8808 Highway 87 North, Orange, Texas. Rev. Ron Butler will be officiating. Interment to follow at Hyatt Cemetery Fields, Louisiana
David's life was a testament to what matters most: showing up for your family, working hard, loving deeply, and finding joy in the everyday moments.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
