Memorial Service for David Bunch of Plains, TX, will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Plains First Baptist Church, with Rev. Patrick Hamilton officiating.
David was born on November 21, 1940, to A.O. Bunch and Bessie Myrtle Bunch in Muskogee, OK. He passed away on January 22, 2025, at the age of 84.
In his younger years, David moved to Tatum, New Mexico, where he took the initiative to get his education by checking himself into school. On September 7, 1979, David married the love of his life, Shirley Bunch. Their 45 years together were filled with shared dreams, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.
David was a proud Army Veteran. He enjoyed and was proud to walk every year he could at the Veteran’s Ceremony at Plains ISD. He worked for Lea County Electric Coop for 39+ years, and after retiring from Lea County Electric, he had his own landscaping service for 20+ years in Yoakum County. David was the handyman for FBC-Plains for many years and for anyone who asked him to do absolutely anything. He had a true servant’s heart.
David was a jack of all trades and a master of most. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought a special happiness to him that will leave a lasting memory. He was very proud, appreciative, and in awe of the care his wife Shirley gave him these last few years. He said many times how strong and great of a woman she is and was so grateful for her love and care.
David is preceded in death by his parents, A.O. Bunch and Bessie Myrtle Bunch; as well as 4 brothers, Olen, Leo, Glen, and Bill Bunch.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; their 3 children, Sherry Nock and her husband Jason Nock, Scotty Rains and his wife Chesle Rains, and Steven Bunch and his wife Candace Bunch; 2 daughters from a previous marriage, Charlotte Wasson and her husband Joel Wasson and Carrie Madrid and her husband Jesse Madrid, Sr.; grandchildren Kenyon Powell, Karla Compary, Riley Rains, Jackson Rains, Emory Rains, Mallory Bunch, Madelin Bunch, Kyson Bunch, Patrick Wasson, Cole Wasson, Jesse Madrid, Jr., and Anthony Madrid; great-grandchildren, Kooper Powell, Kensey Powell, Kimber Powell, Remi Compary, Braxtyn Compary, and Caleb Madrid; and sister-in-law, Jan Bunch.
