To the Burgoynes:
I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of David. I missed the notice in the paper but it was sent to me by a colleague. I was therefore not able to attend the memorial service, however, I do want you to know that David and his journey will always be in my heart and a part of my life. I truly wish the best for your family and I know David and his big heart will be sorely missed.
My deepest sympathy for your profound loss. May God bless and heal each of you from all pain and grief so that the richness of David's life will always be with you.

Mr and Mrs Burgoyne and family,
We are very sadden to learn of David's death. I worked with David at Coliseum Mall in '78/'79. We managed the old 'FanFare' shoe salon together. Carol and I met at the mall, fell in love and decided to marry. We had planned a simple Justice of the Peace gathering but it was David who was emphatic that we have something more formal. "You need those memories", he said. And you may recall Mr. B that you presided over the ceremony on a very hot June day in 1979 in my parents back yard. I remember going over to David and Bonnie's apt. off Warwick and participating in pick-up b-ball games. We lost track of David in the early '80's. I'll always remember his athletic ability, wit, and quick smile.

David was an excellent respiratory therapist who was always thinking of ways to improve patient care for the neonates he cared for in MCV's neonatal intensive care unit. I worked with David at MCV and later at Johnston Willis Hospital. I remember his gentle sense of humor and dedication to his job. We bumped into each other over the years and he was always so warm and friendly. I last saw David performing in Carytown, playing his guitar and singing. It was a wonderful evening and I especially remember him playing one of the songs he had written. It was one of those songs that touches everyone who listens with its poignant message. It was such a joy to see David in his element entertaining people and bringing happiness to all those who listened to his music.

I can remeber the first time I met my future father in law. David was so personable and committed to making you feel at ease around him. We had an instant great relationship that blossomed as the years went by. He always had a charisma that made everyone feel totally at ease around him. From the Hoffman family, you will be sorely missed David, and god bless you as you undertake the greatest journey of all
