David Caldwell, of Derry, passed away on Jan. 8, 2026. Dave was born on Jan. 14, 1942, in Latrobe. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard W. Caldwell Sr. and Cecile Sipe Caldwell of Latrobe; his parents-in-law, Paul and Sylvia Keyser of Stahlstown; his brother, Roger Sipe Caldwell of Latrobe; his brother, John "Jack" Charles Caldwell and his wife, Clara, of Rock Island, IL; and his brother, Howard "Bud" Caldwell Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Latrobe. Dave is survived by the love of his life, Audrey Fae Keyser Caldwell of Derry; his son, Scott Matson, and Stephanie Horner of Ligonier, and their children: Kirsten and her husband, Justin Ross, and their children, Chase and Maddox; Sheldon Matson and his wife, Hunter, of Greensburg; Gordon Matson and his wife, Nicole, of Ligonier; Clayten Matson and his girlfriend, Gabby, of North Carolina; and Payton Matson and his girlfriend, Tori, of Ligonier. He is also survived by his daughter, Heidi Caldwell King, and her husband, Max, of Derry Township, and their children: Victoria King and her fiance, George, of Greensburg; Jason King; and Paige King of Derry; and his son, Justin Caldwell, and his wife, Audrey, of LaBelle, and their children: Dylan Shue and his wife, Ashley, and their children, Saia and Cayde, of LaBelle; and Corporal Jackson Caldwell (U.S. Marines) and his fiancee, Cami, and Jackson's daughter, Zoey, of North Carolina. Dave is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. David was a four-year veteran of the US Navy and was awarded the Navy Expeditionary Service Medal for his service on the destroyer USS Rich as part of the naval blockade of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. He was also a retired Latrobe Police Department officer with 27 years of service. Dave was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Police, Westmoreland Lodge #23, where he also served as lodge secretary for many years. He was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Tony Angelo Aerie #1188, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ligonier, and a member of the American Legion in Latrobe. Dave was a Master Mason with the Free and Accepted Masons of Loyalhanna Lodge #275 of Latrobe and a 32nd-degree Mason with the Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh. Dave was certified as a District Justice by the Minor Judiciary Education Board on July 20, 1994, in Chambersburg. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latrobe. Dave felt blessed to have had a wonderful wife and family. He enjoyed a good life with three children, 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren (Chase, Maddox, Saia, Cayde, and Zoey) whom he loved very much. Family and friends will be received from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Members of Loyalhanna Lodge No. 275, F&AM, will conduct a memorial service at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, in the funeral home. Members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 01188 will conduct a memorial service at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, in the funeral home. Military services will be conducted at 10:15 a.m., Saturday, in the funeral home by the Latrobe-Derry Veterans Honor Guard, followed by an honorary flag presentation by the Fraternal Order of Police, Westmoreland Lodge No. 23, and the Latrobe Police Department. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Latrobe. Interment will be private.
