DAVID J. CALHOUN

DAVID JAMES CALHOUN, 59, died peacefully at home on March 4, 2022 holding the hands of his wife and family members.

David was the loving husband of Kathleen for 35 years, having married on Valentine's Day. Devoted son of Taylor P (deceased) and Patricia Calhoun. With great love and affection David will be remembered by his sisters, Mary Anne (Michael Carpenter), Patricia, Christine and Elizabeth and his brothers Stephen (Cindy) and Taylor (Denise), sister-in-law Karen (Pat Hall) and brothers-in-law Phil (Penny) and Jim. David was an adored and respected uncle to his nieces and nephews Michael, Matthew, Brigitte, Stephen, John, Taylor, Irene, Joseph, Nicole, Patrick, Christopher, Philip, Caroline and Kelly. He also shared a very long, deep friendship with Father Michael Quilligan, the parish priest at Annunciation Catholic Church who married David and Kathleen. Words cannot begin to describe the bond shared between them.

David was born in Hollywood, Florida. He was a graduate of Chaminade High School and Florida International University. David made his career as an Engineer in the Department of Transportation for the State of Florida. David loved surfing, windsurfing, sailing, diving and anything else related to the ocean. He also loved skateboarding, horticulture and had a deep love for his many adventures in Ireland.

He loved his friends and neighbors in Hollywood and Summerplace, Orchid Island. David lovingly called "Darling David" as a child had a constant smile and twinkle in his eyes. David had a keen intellect and great curiosity. He had an unquenchable desire to share cultural experiences, travel stories, his pineapple or carambola harvest, orchids, folklore, Irish song lyrics, spiritual understandings, kindness, compassion, optimism, cooperation and support. Always with Kathy by his side.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice or the American Cancer Society.

The family would appreciate that guests maintain COVID precautions and mask wearing.
