David Carver Obituary
David Edward Carver, 82, of Evansville, IN, left his earthly home on December 30, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born at home on June 24, 1941, in Scottsville, KY to Reverend Edward Carver and Alene Emberton Carver.
David and Aasta Mason were married on June 17, 1962 at Oakland City First General Baptist Church. Their marriage was one of love and mutual support. They were blessed with two children, Amy Lucille and Andrew David. David's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, teaching his children and grandchildren and taking family trips to national parks and historic sites.
David was a lifelong learner and educator. He graduated from Providence High School in Providence, KY and held a BA from Oakland City University and MA from the University of Evansville. He taught German, English, and Speech at the secondary level, was a reading specialist at Earle C. Clements Job Corps, and an administrator at Indiana Vocational Technical College. Later, David applied the carpentry skills he learned from his father to start his own construction business.
David was a deacon and trustee of the Oakland City First General Baptist Church. He was a man of God who demonstrated his faith by serving those he encountered in all walks of life.
He met the challenges of his 32-year cancer battle with a steadfast optimism. His example and outreach provided encouragement and hope to fellow cancer patients. The family wishes to thank all the oncology nurses and physicians who have provided care to David throughout the years.
David is survived by his wife of 61 years, Aasta Mason Carver, daughter Amy Mulesky (Ray), son Andrew Carver (Laurie), grandson Spencer Mulesky (Susan), granddaughter Katharine Carver, and great-grandchildren Mirana and Carver Mulesky. He is survived by cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished. David was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Carver, and sister Beth Ostercamp.
A service to celebrate David's life will be held Saturday, January 6 at the Oakland City First General Baptist Church, 224 W. Harrison St., Oakland City, IN 47660. Visitation will begin at 9 am until the service at 12:30 pm. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and honor David's memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (lls.org) or the First General Baptist Church of Oakland City. Donation envelopes will also be available at the church.
