David M Chambers, 90, of La Fontaine, passed away at 8:46 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Rolling Meadows Health & Rehabilitation Center in LaFontaine. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Friday, November 1, 1935, to Leo and Helen (LeMunyon) Chambers. On February 9, 1963, he married Shirley Bennett, who survives.
David graduated from Marion High School and proudly served in the US Navy for 4 years active duty and 2 years in the reserves. Following his military service, David worked as a sales representative with CW Transport. He loved traveling and saw much of the US as well as foreign countries. David loved watching and feeding birds, crossword puzzles, fishing, golfing, and going out to eat. He loved walking and taking care of his dog, Jacque. His favorite sports teams were the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Indiana Pacers. David was a member of Central Christian Church, Marion and served as a deacon and also attended Lakeview Church. He was a member of the Transportation Fraternity and Fairmount Lions Club. David volunteered at Marion VA Hospital, Gas City Chamber of Commerce, and Indiana Wesleyan University with over 20,000 hours and won many awards and recognition for hours served. He coached and watched his son play various sports and enjoyed watching his daughter in gymnastics and baton twirling. David participated and enjoyed activities at Rolling Meadows and would like to thank the staff and all who took care of him there. They comforted, loved and provided excellent care for him.
David is survived by wife of 62 years, Shirley Chambers of La Fontaine, IN; daughter, Cindy (Terry) Jeffries of Fairmount, IN; son, Jeffrey (Tammy) Chambers; granddaughters, Jennifer (Zach) Jeffries-Webb, Rachel Chambers, and Courtney Chambers; grandson, Derek Chambers; great-grandson, Hudson Webb; great-granddaughter, Vivienne Webb; sisters-in-law, Ruby Chambers and Jean Chambers; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Leo Chambers; mother, Helen Chambers; sister, Delores Crouch; and three brothers, William "Bud" Chambers, Rex Chambers, and Charles Chambers.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate David's life will begin at 1 pm with Rev. Dan VanCise officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park, Marion, IN.
Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
