Our parents are both warm, loving, caring, well spoken, worldly travelers, who were united after great tragedies of losing their spouses. From that union, 50+ years later, we are a united supportive family. Looking back, our parents provided a great childhood for us, though not always the easiest with 5 of us.
Dad loved reading & watching ball games. He was handy at fixing & building things. He loved great food throughout the world, but the best bonus was the numerous meals Marc, David & Arunee cooked.
Dad was a successful businessman. At some point, all of his children worked in Suerken's Restaurant, and several ran it so they could travel. For many years, mom worked by his side & ran the kitchen, baking deserts to everyone's delight. In our teen years, like clockwork at 10pm, dad was home from a very long day's work. Mom always had an authentic homemade Caesar salad waiting, and whomever was in his maroon suede chair had to vacate.
Dad, to his last day, was very proud of all of his family. He mostly listened and was often quiet, but when he had something to say or to add to a conversation, he spoke up. For all of us, he was the go-to for much needed advice over the years. He was a great sounding board and a great cheering section too. He supported our choices, usually after long discussions.
Our parents were best friends, so few have that true honor. They loved each other's company. They spoke honestly & said what they had to say to each other, then moved forward together. Dad was caring and patient with mom to the end and that worked both ways. They looked out for each other, always. We thank you both and love you both dearly.
We can all say, we were very lucky to have dad as our father. We will always love you. You will be in our hearts & memories forever. Rest in peace.
