David Chretien Obituary
He was a resident of New Iberia, LA who transitioned at 8:18 P.M. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at his residence.
David Chretien was born on January 11, 1953, in Lafayette, Louisiana to parents Simon and Pearly Chretien of New Iberia, Louisiana, where he resided his entire life. He was a graduate of New Iberia Senior High School and went on to attend the University of Southwestern Louisiana where he earned his bachelor's degree. While attending USL, he also became a member of the Gamma Delta chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He went on to spend many years working in the oil and gas industry for both Texaco and Chevron, and later as an industry consultant before retirement. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, gumbo chef, Cowboys fan, and family historian.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Chretien; his sons: Terrence (Wilma) and Ryan Chretien; Deyon Hypolite, Sr. (son to Gwen); Rukiya Martin (daughter to Gwen); siblings Eddie Chretien, Sr. (Brenda) of New Iberia, LA; Dwight Chretien (Lisa) of Lafayette, LA; Sharon Chretien of Dallas, TX; Douglas Chretien (Gidget) of Denham Springs, LA; grandchildren: Sterling (Terrence); Dreyton and Jelani (Rukiya) Deyon Jr., Mackenzie, Bailey, Harley, Dakota, Daylen,Tinslee (Deyon) and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents; sisters: Helen Chretien and Marie Chretien-Oxley; Eddie Lee Chretien, Jr. (nephew); Ejonda Hypolite (daughter to Gwen).
