David Lee Cobbins Sr. was born in Lexington, Mississippi, on June 27, 1942, to the late John Cobbins (father) and Willie B. Sims (mother).

David was married to Verline Cobbins from January 22, 1967, until her passing on November 19, 2017. From this union one son was born and they shared four other sons from a previous union. He was married to Chiquita Cobbins on February 23, 2019 until his passing.

Before retiring, he worked as a truck driver at Midwest Block and Brick for 40 years.

Deacon Cobbins was a faithful member of the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist under the leadership of the late Rev. A.L. Johnson Sr. He later united with the Love United Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dan Vassol Sr. where he served as the chairman of the Deacon board. At the time of his passing, he was a loyal and faithful member of the Canaan Worship Center under the leadership of Bishop Tony D. Cobbins. He served as a deacon and gave leadership to the Golden Saints Ministry.

Deacon Cobbins had a lot of wisdom and was known for giving an encouraging word to all those he came in contact with. He was also known for being a well dressed man and for keeping a clean car.

David was proceeded in death by both parents, twelve brothers, two sisters, four sons: Donald Ray Martin, Arnold Martin (Gene), Urban Cobbins and Durando Cobbins.

David leaves to cherish his memory; his loving and devoted wife Chiquita Cobbins, his supportive and only surviving son Pastor David L. Cobbins Jr. (Carla), a special daughter Loretha (Tony), daughter Lelanie (Monte), his siblings Rosezina Lee, Clarence Cobbins (Gwen), his Arkansas siblings: Barbara Wilborn, Sonja Daniel (Clyde Sr.), Arthur Johnson Sr. (Shirley), Hezekiah Kilpatrick (Ida), grandchildren Ovonja Martin, Verletta Martin, Doretta Goolsby, Mario Franklin (Shakiyla), Alexis “Precious“ Acklin, Ca’Teisha Lee, Durando and Marcus Davenport, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
