David Convy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Robinson Funeral Home on Dec. 24, 2022.
After an extended illness, David M. Convy, 86, of West Okoboji, Iowa, passed away on December 23, 2022. His wife of 67 years, Janet, was at his side at the time of his death.
David was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 3, 1936 to Elmer and Sadie Convy. He grew up in Laurens, Iowa and attended Laurens schools. He joined the US Navy in early 1955. He and Janet were married on July 17, 1955.
Janet was the one and only love of his life. He often said that he fell in love with her when they were in kindergarten.
David served honorably in the Navy for several years and during his service he learned his trade of air traffic control. He loved being an air traffic controller; he loved providing guidance to pilots to ensure safety and safe arrival for their crew and passengers to whatever their destination. After his retirement, he became an instructor at the Air Traffic Control Academy at the University of Oklahoma. There he mentored many young men and women in the profession that had served him so well and passed his passion for excellence to a new generation.
David was an avid model train enthusiast. He had assembled a large collection of trains over several decades. He enjoyed attending model train shows and searching for that next item to add to his collection.
Most importantly, David loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He said many times during his last days that he was looking forward to being with Jesus and resting in His arms. He is there now.
From the time of his childhood, David absolutely loved spending time at West Okoboji. He never missed a summer in his entire life. He loved the "Lake." It was his home. He loved everything about Okoboji and the beauty of it.
David was a gentle spirit who was loved and admired and will be missed by many. He lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger. Chances are if you met him no matter how long it would be until your next interaction he would stick out his hand and warmly call you by name.
David was preceded in death by a brother, James Convy; and a sister, Virginia Rife.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, and two sons, Dave Convy (Lori) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Jim Convy (Carol) of Muncie, Indiana. Also surviving are his grandkids, David Convy (Maggie) of Denver, Colorado, Kelly Hatfield (Tyler) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, James Convy of Indianapolis, Indiana and Laura Buckwalter (Andy) of Asheville, North Carolina. In addition, David is survived by two precious great-grandsons, Hudson and Heston, and a third on the way. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
David is now resting in peace thanks be to God!
A memorial service for David will be held at a later date at Harbor of Joy Church in Milford. Memorials may be sent to: Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church, 1204 "L" Avenue, Milford, Iowa 51351.
