David Crooks of Sterling passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, while camping at the reservoir. A memorial and celebration of life will be held Friday, September 20th, 11:00 am at the Sagebrush Pavilion, across from the Rec. Center.
David was born January 16, 1960, in Alamosa, CO to Alberta Mae (Reedy) and J. Howard Crooks. He attended Sterling schools and earned his GED.
David worked various jobs including the railroad, oil drilling, as a member of Dryland Diving and as an EMT. David suffered a back injury working in the oil fields that left him on disability.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to David. He loved spending time camping with his friends, enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and metal working. David cared for his parents until their deaths.
David was a man who cared very deeply for others and was willing to help wherever he could. He loved animals and doted over many cats and dogs.
He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh with his quirky and
unpredictable sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Christopher John Howard Crooks.
David will be deeply missed by his sister Dana (Crooks) Smith, her husband Douglas Smith, nephew Christian Smith, sister Johanna (Crooks) Snyder and her husband Chuck Snyder, companion Shannon Everett, all the members of the Brown Clan with whom he grew up with and considered family, sister in-law Barbara Crooks, niece Elizabeth Crooks and her daughter Kaitlyn, nephew Mathew Crooks, and a host of many friends from the Sterling and surrounding areas, who shared his love for living every day.
Contributions can be made in David's name to New Pathways to Wellness and Recovery Counseling Center, 740 W. Broadway St., Sterling, CO 80751 or the Logan County Humane Society, 2250 Leisure Lane, Sterling, CO 80751.
