David Bruce Crowell, 80, of Sterling, passed away January 28, 2026, in Backus Hospital. He was the loving husband of Jennifer Dacey for 20 years and they had shared their lives for the previous 11 years before marrying. He was the son of the late Kenneth Clark Crowell and Barbara Lee (Shafer) Crowell.
Dave was born in
Portland, Maine, while his father was serving in the military but grew up in Highland Park, Illinois and was proud to be from the Chicago area. He earned his Bachelors degree in Psychology and played football at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. He later became a certified Industrial Hygienist and worked for General Dynamics for 35 years, beginning his career in Chicago for Material Services and retiring as the Chief of Safety for Electric Boat in
Groton, CT.
After college, Dave played professional football in the Midwest as a defensive end for the Lake County Rifles. He enjoyed regaling people with his football stories and on occasion, showing off his football moves. Dave was a staunch BIG 10 fan, always favoring the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was also an avid golfer and loved playing the game with his wife, children and grandchildren who took up the hobby. One of his most memorable moments was watching Tiger Woods win his first Masters Tournament in Augusta.
Dave traveled extensively, teaching for a few years in Columbia, South America, traveling throughout the US and internationally to visit his children, grandchildren and siblings. He also traveled frequently to Ireland with his wife.
In addition to his wife, Jennifer, David is survived by his children, Jennifer Curtis, Kristen Crowell, Elizabeth Winter, David Lee Crowell, Mark Crowell; his sister, Catherine Lee Torgerson; and 11 grandchildren.
David is predeceased by his first born son, Todd Crowell; and his brother, Richard Clark Crowell.
