David Charles DeVinney was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota on April 1st 1958. He passed away on April 29, 2024 in Gainesville, Florida. He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Jane, children David L. DeVinney (Shelby, and grandchildren Dustin, Ava, Kylie, Caleb, Elizabeth), LC DeVinney, Alexandra DeVinney Richardson (Matthew), and Amanda DeVinney, his brother Bill DeVinney (Sandy, and nephew Tyler), sister Denise DeVinney, and Aunts, Uncles, and cousins, with special thoughts of Michelle Swendner Ambrose. He is preceded in death by his father Charles A. DeVinney and his mother Shirley.
Dave attended St. Thomas Military Academy high school and St. Cloud State University. In 1980 he moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming to work as a Police Officer for the City of Cheyenne Police Department. Subsequently he was recruited by IBM to join the IBM Information Network in Tampa, Florida. Dave worked for IBM from 1984 until 2009 in roles including Manager and on the technical side as Network Design Engineer, Solutions Architect, and Systems Engineer when his division was sold to AT&T. He also trained the Slovakia team. The family moved to Gainesville, Florida in 2005 and he remained with AT&T until his retirement after a total of 37 years.
Dave was involved in the Haile Plantation HOA where he served as President. He was instrumental in saving the beloved horse pasture as well as other significant upgrades in the community. He loved taking his beautiful black chow chows for their nightly walk in the forest as well as bike riding on the trails, and he enjoyed working in his yard. Dave was a devoted father and loved spending time with his children. He was especially noted for his contagious smile that would light up any room. A private family service will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Navy Seal Foundation.

David was my cousin. He was always smileng, full of life and energy! We lived in different parts of the country but enjoyed reconnecting at the few family reunions we had and just recently at our home in Rochester,Minn. Where I realized as a mature adult just what a great guy I always thought and now it was confirmed, yes he indeed was. We had plans to meet in Tx and I would be his tour guide to the beautiful hill country. He will be very missed and know he is whole again, no more pain (and having an ever ending soda fountain of his favorite "coca~Cola"!) and my angel here so Dave you will always be w me and you will have the best seat in the house as I travel these back roads of the hill country I love you Cuz. Heaven really did gain an incredible angel who will definitely turn up that bright light even brighter I send my love and sincere condolences to his beautiful family

My prayers and thoughts are with Dave's family. We worked together for many years at AT&T. Dave was a gem...always helpful, looking for the most challenging tasks, always go go go. There was never a dull moment sharing a project with him. I will miss his enthusiasm and his "need for speed". If anyone had worked with Dave, we knew we had to move fast. Glad I had the chance to cross path with him.
