David Diggs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home & Funeral Directors, Inc. - LaPlace on Feb. 25, 2026.
David Diggs, Sr.

1933 - 2026

David Diggs, Sr., affectionately known as "Dave," passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, at the age of 92. Born August 14, 1933, to Willie and Lena Boyd Diggs, he was a devoted husband to Gloria Coleman Diggs for 29 years and previously to Mildred Green Diggs for 44 years. He was the father of the late David Diggs, Jr., and the late Ronald Diggs.

A lifelong member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Boutte, David was baptized on September 9, 1955, by Rev. Albert Green, Sr. He faithfully served his church for decades singing in the choir for 48 years and later becoming an ordained Deacon as well as the devoted groundkeeper for both the church and cemetery.

David retired from American Cyanamid after 43 years of dedicated service. He was known throughout the community for his steady kindness, humble spirit, and unwavering willingness to help others.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Gloria Diggs; daughters in law, Rev. Marilyn Diggs, Naomi Diggs, and Selina Cureaux; bonus son, Eddie Cureaux, and a special bond to Mary Evans. His legacy continues through seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren, also his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and each one a reflection of the goodness and grace God allowed him to sow throughout his life.

He is further remembered with deep affection by a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended relatives, and friends. All who knew him give thanks for the blessing of his life, holding fast to the promise of Scripture: "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." With grateful hearts, they cherish his memory and the light he shared, trusting that he now rests in the eternal peace of God's presence.

David is preceded in death by his parents; his previous wife, Mildred Diggs; his two sons: David Diggs, Jr. and Ronald Diggs. his siblings: Willie Jr., John Sr., Leonard, Leo, Andrew, Wilfred, Louisiana Diggs, Georgiana D. Williams, Leola Diggs, and Rosalee Diggs; mother-in-law: Naomi Coleman, also his sisters-in-law and brothers in law.
