David P. DiGirolamo Obituary

DiGirolamo David P. Of Newtown Square, died September 27, 2025, at the age of 77. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Marian M. (nee Rollo) DiGirolamo, parents Alfred and Elizabeth (nee Secamiglio) DiGirolamo, brother Frederick DiGirolamo, and sister Cynthia DiGirolamo. Father of David (Erin) DiGirolamo, Dennis (Sara) DiGirolamo, and Lauren (Thomas) Shirley. Also survived by grandchildren Brianna, Gabrielle, Miles, Jacquelyn, David, and Thomas. After graduating from Yeadon High School, David served in the Air National Guard for several years. He would then go into business first as a soft drink wholesaler then a beer wholesaler owning various retail locations in Philadelphia and Delaware County. Known by his friends and peers as "David Day," in 1997 David re-founded Day's Beverages in honor of his father who began the company 50 years earlier. David grew Day's Beverage from a South Philly brand into a regional powerhouse with national reach. A legend in the beverage world, David described he was most blessed to have six grandchildren and was most proud to be known as, "Pop Pop." Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Friday, 11 A.M. at St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026 where his Funeral Mass will follow at 12 P.M. Interment SS. I have been a close friend of David for 69 years. We attended grade school and high school together. I´ve known his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. All a loving family, and with funny stories, too!

We shared the same ethnicity and memories of all kinds of growing up experiences, and even memories of South Philadelphia where our grandparents started out in this country. Our mothers even went to high school together.

We traveled life´s journeys together the ups and downs for us both. David loved spaghetti and crabs so he would invite me to his shore house on the condition I brought a pot. His children were young then and I enjoyed watching them enjoy the shore activities while growing into adults. I felt honored he and Marion let me be a part of that as I had no children of my own.

Now they have become loving adults. with their own beautiful families of which David was so so proud!

As the journey continued we shared the heartbreak of having both of our spouses in nursing homes at the same time.
We tried to give each other courage in those years.

Time moved on and we found ourselves keeping in touch by phone more often than in person. His business was growing and I had a major move after my husband passed. David was always there for advice and I appreciated that!

David would call me every Sunday night and started out with VERA, VERA, VERA. As we got older more Vera´s were tacked on before he started to speak and ask, "How ya doing, alright?" Then our conversation would begin.

I am going to have a rough time not hearing that greeting anymore. Our lasting friendship meant so much to me.

My sincerest sympathies to his loving children, grandchildren and his cat Eggie whom he adored. I am grateful to have been a part of his life and that of his family.

One more thing, it was mentioned before, but I have to say it again. David would always answer the business phone with a very upbeat tone of voice "Day´s Beverage!!" He was so proud of his father´s company and the fact that he brought that label back. He left a wonderful legacy to his family and those that enjoy what has become a unique variety of flavors!!!!

I just can´t believe he´s gone.
Rest in Peace my dear friend.
Vera, Vera, Vera.

My friend Dave was a remarkable human being who touched many hearts during his lifetime through his dedicated work ethic and quiet monetary donations. He always showed compassion and respected those who worked hard. The Catholic Church and his faith in Jesus Christ was paramount. He was God fearing but was brilliant and a "tiger" in the business world. Dave always pursued a fair and equitable deal ultimately but of course in the process came much fanfare! His voice was unique and unmistakable and wether you were a friend or business colleague his telephone greeting was always "Day's Beverage" !! I will always remember my kind, sweet friend forever in my heart and the incredible memories that were formed through our special relationship. I have been blessed and made a better person for knowing David.
