David Marvin Dodson departed this life on Monday, January 12, 2026, at his residence in Blackstone, VA at the age of 73. He was born on April 24, 1952 in Burkeville, VA to Reverend Floyd Dodson, Sr. and Elizabeth Dodson.
David attended Nottoway County public schools, and later joined Job Corp.
At an early age, David sought the Lord and was baptized. He was a member of Yielding Zion Baptist Church in Burkeville where he served as a Deacon. He later joined New Bethel Baptist Church in Crewe where he also served as a faithful Deacon until his passing. David loved the Lord and his church family and was very dedicated to his calling.
He enlisted in the US army and in 1972 was honorably discharged.
David loved fishing, rabbit hunting and working on cars. He was a diehard Washington Commanders fan. He was a member of the Nottoway County NAACP
During his career, he painted water towers, after that he started working for Norfolk & Southern Railroad until he retired in June of 2012. After his retirement he began driving school bus for Nottoway County and continued until his death.
On August 31, 2012 David was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mable Williams Dodson.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Floyd Sr. and Elizabeth Dodson; a brother, Marvin Dodson; three sisters, Catherine Fonville, Beulah Berryman and Mary Brown; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Frances Dodson; brothers-in-law, Elder Hubert Eddings, Charles Carroll, Michael Diggs, James, Joseph and Alvin Williams.
David leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife of thirteen years, Mable; two sons, Shawn Dodson (Carolyn) and Marvin Dodson (Vonda); one step-daughter, Shanika Wilson (Brian); two step-sons, D'Marcus Davis (Lakia) and Trequan Burtt; grandchildren, Emanuel, Jamal, Teshawn and Alexes; step-grandchildren, JaKarri, Ayonna, Makayla, Kendrick, Amaya, Amari and Nevaeh; one great granddaughter, Serenity; two brothers, Floyd Dodson, Jr. (Diane) and Leon Dodson (Viole); three sisters, Deloise Dodson, Hattie Eddings and Ruby Dodson; three sisters-in-law, Hattie Divens, Barbara Diggs and Vanessa Carroll; two brothers-in-law, Charles Berryman and Russell Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
