David Doernberg Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 20, 2024.
David George Doernberg passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the age of 76. He is survived by his caring brother, Alan (Linda) Doernberg; nieces and nephews, Curt Doernberg, Molly (Charles) May, Carla (Wesley) Obenshain, Wendy Doernberg (Aaron Goldstein), Jessica Burch, Brendan Sheppard, and Brandi Sheppard; great nephews, David, Jesse, and Andrew May, and Henry Obenshain, and care manager, Tracey Franz. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Janet Sue Doernberg; and devoted parents, Belle and Curt Doernberg.
David grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Grady High School. He received his Bachelor's in Economics from Oglethorpe University and a Master's in Library Science from University of Pittsburgh. Of the positions he held throughout his career, he was most proud to retire as a Lead Technical Information Services Analyst at the Department of Transportation (DOT) after 24 years of service, where he responded to Freedom of Information Act requests and worked to identify other DOT documents. He continued his interest in transportation throughout his life, including a most impressive collection of license plates.
David and Janet had a special relationship, in sickness and in health, until Janet's passing in 2019. They enjoyed sharing jokes, love letters, and quality time together.
