David Jesse Dorough

David Jesse Dorough, 21, of Huntsville, passed away Monday, March 9, at Huntsville Hospital. A senior civil engineering student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, David was recently honored as the UAH College of Engineering Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Civil Engineering and was set to graduate this May. David never let his diagnosis of debilitating muscular dystrophy define his dreams. He worked tirelessly toward his degree, completing challenging coursework and remaining on track to graduate. David graduated from Sparkman High School in 2022.

Known for his quick wit and warm presence at Mount Zion Baptist Church, David was a source of strength and inspiration to friends, classmates, and the church family. An avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan, David loved watching games with family and friends - cheering loudly, analyzing plays, and celebrating every win.

David loved the Lord and was open about his faith throughout his life. Even while facing the challenges of muscular dystrophy, he relied on Christ for strength and encouragement. His favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:13 (KJV), reflects the faith that carried him through life: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." His steady faith was an inspiration to many who knew him.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers, classmates, and medical teams who supported David's journey; their compassion made a profound difference.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Dorough; his grandparents, Sandy and Dan Shay, and Jesse and Betty Dorough; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Barry Dorough.

Funeral services will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. on March 12, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be John Michael Sweatt, John Sweatt, Kevin Dorough, Ethan Nicholson, Nunley Strong, and David McRee.

David's life was a testimony of faith, perseverance, and courage, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
