David Dumville

When I was 4 (1949), I lived with my parents in New Orleans. My Dad, Daniel Fillmore, worked for the Public Health Service. One day we went swimming in the ocean, I got caught in the surf and drowned. My Mom saw me floating about, face down, and pulled me out of the water. A family friend, Dr. David Dumville, who was with us that day, gave me CPR. I'm very indebted to Dr. Dumville, and his passing saddens me. I wish I'd been able to contact him sooner. Carolyn and I, at that time, were childhood buddies, and I send her my condolences also.

I am so sorry ... many memories of happier times are flooding my thoughts. I always called him "Dr. Dumville" ... a title of respect for a man who left a monumental legacy of equal importance for patients, colleagues, friends, and family. I know your hearts are broken. Dear Family...my deepest regrets on OUR loss...David was an integral part of many many lives through time...many memories were made and still stay alive....in fact....How many people do you know who can see 10 ill patients in the morning and then in the afternoon steer his boat with his knees in 10 foot chop while taking his 2 free hands to load and light his pipe all the while trying to keep an 8 year old kid from panicking as waves seemed to wash over the windshield ? Yep...that was David...That is the way I will remember David..with that vivid memory as fresh today as it was 40 years ago....as the friend and college compadre of my own father...and the man at helm in the flying bridge....where no gamefish was safe...and no one was a stranger....I really enjoyed knowing David and am proud to know his entire family....and am thankful for the times we had together. My Very Best Wishes to remembering the fun times we all had with David, appreciating his accomplishments as a professional and admiring his dedication to his family and friends. So sorry to learn of Dave's passing. The world was a better place with him in it.

I am sorry we had a bad connection on Friday and you couldn't hear me well.

We are sorry to learn of Dave's death. I understand that he was in a lot of pain and distress. We hope that you will find comfort in the coming days knowing that Dave is in good hands now and without pain.
Please remember that Sissy was likely waiting for him to fuss about the last speeding ticket she ever got. Mom was likely rolling her eyes because Sissy still isn't over it.

Nancy and I both have work commitments Sunday, Monday and Tuesday that we could not re-arrange. We will be unable to get to Richmond for the family time or the services.

Hope to get down very soon. We would love to take you to lunch the next time we are at Bobby's house.

He was a great physician!Bob Keeling sent me to him a very long time ago, but I never forgot him.I told Dot he and Bob were up there no doubt discussing patients. Love and prayers.

My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead.

My sincerest sympathies and prayers that God will comfort your family. David had a life that should be celebrated! I have the fondest memories. He was a kind and wonderful man.

When I was a child he was my physician. He was located on Monument Ave. at the time. My mother was Florence London and he took very good care of her too. She also served a few parties at his home when he was living on Riverside Dr. May God continue to bless you Mrs. Dumville and your family.
