Hello,
We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We are sending Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of David E. Schultz US Army Captain.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and many others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

Schultz was my XO. He was a great person and a great leader. I remember the last conversation we had together in a PX on FOB Scania. For as long as I breath, he will be remembered.

David,
I never had the chance to know you but Laurent thought highly of you! When I read the FRG email about you, my heart broke for you, Sabrina and Logan and the Men who served with you. Laurent called when the lines were back up and the first thing he told me is to make sure I did what I could for Sabrina and Logan because you were a good man and they deserve to be taken care of. Little did I know that one month and 11 days later Laurent would be joining you in Heaven. I promise you that I will always do everything I can for your Amazing Family! I am blessed to call Sabrina my friend and Logan is the cutest little boy ever! Thank you for the sacrifice you made for Our Country. We will never forget.

Hey, dad's been gone for a year today - can you believe it? I bet a year where you are is nothing - I know you two are just waiting for us to come and be with you. We will be there one day and then we can all be together again. I miss you and dad so much it hurts. I feel like life is just unfair and it is so hard going through it without either one of you. Logan and Adrina are wonderful. Doug is a great man, husband and dad and Sabrina is holding her own. Mom of course is strong as ever but still needs you to keep an eye out. Love and miss you. . your sis

To the family of 1st Lt. David Schultz,
It has been 2 years since Melissa Blake wrote an article, "Dave´s Legacy" for the Northern Now. I was touched by what I read and by the photos of a gorgeous family, and I felt a profound sadness. For that reason I am writing now. I could not put the article away until I did something. I would like to help continue David´s legacy by adding a little something toward the sports equipment drive that Bob McParland began.
I am moved by the entry made in this guest book by CPT Eric Shepherd on October 16, 2009. What a friend.
I hope that all of you have found the means to go on. Kisses from Mexico to little Logan. Take good care of him.

Schultz,
I am constanly heart broken thinking about the loss of you. The impact that you had on the people around you lives on still today. I will NEVER forget you man and still can't find the strength to erase your number that is programmed in my phone. I hope and pray that your family is well and regret never being able to meet Sabrina or Logan. I plan on seeing you on the other side though, so have that unmistakeable David Schultz smile on whenever we cross paths next to the big man in the sky.
Take care Schultz family, you are in my prayers

You are missed by many including myself. I found myself thinking of you today and remembering the good times had. I remember Ranger Challenge with NIU ROTC and I remember commissioning together on that same sunny afternoon, both of us receiving our first salutes from 1SG U. I will lead the troops in the same silent and confident way in which you have. You will never be forgotten. You are truely a hero to all of us. As I embark on the journey to a combat zone once again you will be remembered. ALL THE WAY!

Well, it is January 31st and it has been one year that we received the terrible news that we weren't ever going to see or talk to you again. When I heard all I did was scream at the top of lungs WHY?? I feel like a part of me died that day too and I know that it will never grow back. I miss you so much every single day and I just wish I could hear you say anything to me, just one more word but I know you are looking out for all of us wherever you are and I know, eventually, I will see you again. When that day comes, I will give you the biggest hug and kiss and you know you are getting a punch for leaving us so soon.
David, I hope you know how proud of you I am and always will be. I love you and Doug more than life itself and now I have that same feeling for Logan. I know you would want that.
So since I'm your older sister and can still tell you what to do - keep an eye out for mom, dad, Doug, Sabrina and Logan and the guys and know we will never forget you and I will love you always!!!!
Your sister and friend forever. . .

Dear family of
1st Lt. David E. Schultz,
We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.
Very Sincerely
FrankG. Noyes (Pastor)

In my life i have had the honor of meeting but a handful TRUE American heroes. i have served under several, but none have touched me to my very soul as David. i did not serve with David, but knew him before and after his enlistment and would be proud to follow him through the gates of hell had he asked. he absolutely was an officer and a gentleman who exuded the quiet authority and intestinal fortitude of an airborne trooper. rest in peace among heroes my brother,my friend. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Dear Schultz family --
Though I didn't know David, I'm an NIU student who has been covering the issue of veterans reintegration for the past 2 1/2 years; I was also in the building next door to Cole on the day of the shooting and I only yesterday learned of your own unbearable loss suffered two weeks earlier. Want to let you know that I'll be keeping you and David in my thoughts as I remember the other Huskies we've lost at Sunday's memorial and beyond.
David, thank you for your service to our country.
We grieve for your family, and pray that they find the peace you so valiantly fought to bring about in the world while you were here with us. We'll carry you in our hearts and hold your memory and works alive all of our days on earth.

Dear Schultz Family,
I knew David for a very short time, he was by far one of the best platoon leaders in our unit. I was home in the states on emergency leave when the Indirect hit our compound. I was hoping to make it back for the memorial, but I wasn't able to. My twin brother, SSG Ryan D Maseth, died in Bahgdad on January 2nd . . . so I too know what you are going through. David is now in a place so great he would never leave if given the opportunity. He will always be our brother and remembered by all soldiers who knew him and did not, as we all bear the same last name over our hearts, "US ARMY."

This is my second entry into this guest book, but David's passing has touched me in my heart like nothing before. I wasn't even "good friends" with him, just went to school together 6th to 12th grade. Knowing his choices, the people he touched along the way, and the love in his eyes in all of his photos at the wake...he lived a life uncommon, to be able to say a 25 year old lived a full life probably sounds ridiculous...however David lived his life according to what his heart told him to do! I do believe that until his last breath he lived a life full of happiness!!!! Even though he wasn't given the days on earth to tell his story and live the life he left behind, I can promise the world, until the day that I die Dave's story will be told and it will be demanded that anyone like him who chooses to serve this country be respected and appreciated with all that my husband and I can give!!! You are all in my heart forever!!!!!! Sabrina and Logan and the rest of your family are in my prayers for life! I know a real life heroe and I am forever changed...you are loved and remembered always!!!!!!
Friends of Dave

Bleached blonde hair. Hawaiian shirts with white dago T’s. Baggy red denim shorts. Big clunky Airwalk shoes. The only way to describe Dave’s style is-------ehhh---- blind white boy , and when you told him this it wouldn’t phase him whatsoever and he would just respond, “So what, look at you.” But what Dave lacked in fashion sense, he made up in grilling expertise. No one was more enthusiastic to be the grillmaster than Dave. No matter what the meat or processed meatlike substance was, and no matter if it was Dave waking us up for early morning burgers when we were camping, or passing out to Dave grilling beer-battered brats at two in the morning, he was always in full control of that grill.
When one thinks of Dave Schultz, one thinks of courage, strength, commitment, and trust. Surely Dave is as much a symbol of any one of these attributes as any one person can be. And we hope that one day his son, Logan, will be able to find friends that are as loyal and trustworthy as Dave was to Octavio, Lou, Fred, Bob, Jon, Thom, Buck, Will, Jon, Lunchbox, myself and everyone else that I’m sure I’m forgetting.
Much like his father, when Dave cracked a smile and broke into laughter, he would infect you with this incredible sense of well-being. And suuuurrreee he could get stubborn and grumbly, and sometimes he was hardheaded and foolhearted, and he always laughed the loudest at his own jokes -------especially if they weren’t funny, but in the end that’s what made him our brother, what made him the guy we know and love and will keep in our hearts and minds forever.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor

where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.

Dave was an amazing friend and a real example of what it is to be a hero and role model. I'll miss his sarcasm, wit, humor, and friendship. In times that I couldn't find anyone to trust, I knew I always had Dave. I wish we had kept in touch more often but I feel very blessed by the few emails we were able to send back and forth.
He was very much in love with his life. An adoring husband, a loving father, and a proud American. The world will not be the same without him.
Thank you for everything you did.

Becky, Marge, Dave, Doug, Sabrina and Logan:
I am absolutely heartbroken over the loss of David but at the same time extremely proud of the man he became. In every single picture that Becky would e-mail me of David in Iraq, I always told her how happy he looked and proud of what he was doing. I will forever keep those pictures and thoughts with me along with the memories of him as he was growing up. I know this goes without saying, I love all of you very much and I am always here for you. Love always, your BFF

I did not know David Schultz but I had the honor and privilege to stand less than 30 feet from the family as he was brought off the plane and into the hangar at Lewis University. I watched with such sadness how the family grieved, always remaining dignified and proud. Even the baby was an angel. May all of you know how sorry we are for your loss. David Schultz was truly an American patriot and hero.

I met Dave through ROTC at NIU. We commissioned together in May of 05 and we spent a lot of time together in school doing various activities for ROTC. I think I speak for all of us who knew him in ROTC when I say that he was a good friend, a solid Soldier and a great American.
As medics we deal with the worst parts of the war all too often. We fight with everything we have to try to win the most important battle there is over here...the battle for a Soldier's life. I am positive that the medics who treated Dave fought valiantly...God just wanted him home that bad.
My deepest sympathies to you for your loss. I know that when he reported in to Heaven, the angels stood at attention.

Dave,
You were one of the greatest friends I have ever had. I still remember the day we met freshmen year at NIU and all the activities and fun adventures we were in together. You were always a go-getter.
I remember the time we went to Cherry Vale Mall in Rockford in the middle of a snow storm and my car broke down and we had to hike to the gas station and all we had was a sombero and a stocking cap to stay warm, and you insisted on the sombero in the middle of a snow storm.
I remember the great times we had as young undergraduates and as older leaders in the house. Cooking pancakes on move in day and nearly burning the house down... and riding around in your truck. I could go on and on...
I will always remember you.
To Dave's family: I am proud to have known Dave, from the time we met, he was easily the most motivating and supportive friend I have had.
He will be missed, he lived a life that men who live to be 100 could only dream of.
YITB,
Sean

Dear Marge, Dave, Becky, Doug, Sabrina and Little Logan. Your son, your brother, your husband and your daddy is a TRUE HERO!!!! He left us doing what he loved the most which was protecting the ones he loved. He had a lot of love in his heart for his family, friends and his Country. He not only touched a lot of people here locally but he seem to have a classroom full of children in Iraq who loved what he was doing for them, David's heart was so big that I am sure he will be the guardian angel of many!!!
To the entire Schultz family if you need anything no matter what time or day, I am here for you.
When you look up at the stars at night, David will be the brightest star shining!!

I am so heartbroken over the fate of David Schultz, Cpt, that I can hardly type these words.
I do not know David, yet his death pierces my heart so deeply you would expect that we were friends. The news has struck very close, for I am the father of a 26 year old 1st Lieutenant, graduate of Purdue Univ., currently deployed in Irag, assigned to an infantry regiment of the 101st Airborne Division.
I am as proud of David as I am of my own son. If I have learned anything from these two men, it is that officers have a special sense of commitment to their country. Unfortunately, David’s sacrifice sadly reminds us that the freedom that we so casually accept as an entitlement is not free.
I pray that God provides the strength for David’s family to continue on in life with his sense of duty and dedication. May we all appreciate and display respect for the freedom we have. In doing so, David will be as proud of each one of us as we are of him.

Dave and Marge
I know you are both so proud of your son and so am I.
Marge, I remember when you were pregnant with David, Bruce used to say to you, don't have that baby here, I don't know what to do and we would all laugh. We all have lost touch over the years but what wonderful memories we have and they will be with us forever.
I know there are no words to erase the loss that you are experiencing, but I know that your faith will help you though this difficult time.
May GOD Bless you and keep you and David in his loving arms.

Dave,
I couldn't imagine what it would be like to be a Teke if you weren't there. We worked tirelessly in establishing the Fraternity during its nascent stages at NIU, and we couldn’t have done it without you. By far, you were the most hard-working and persevering person I knew. And let’s not forget you were one of the best tuggers we had!
I will remember you always. God bless you, Sabrina, Logan, and your family.
