David Gregory "Dave" Etzler, age 69, passed away on March 6, 2026, in
Ventura, California. Dave was born on February 9, 1957, in
Hawthorne, California, to Gary and Bonnie Etzler. Though born in Hawthorne, he spent most of his childhood growing up in Sylmar, California. He attended Sylmar High School and graduated with the class of 1975.
Dave spent much of his youth on the baseball field, playing the game he loved whenever he could. His passion for baseball continued into adulthood, including time spent coaching Little League for his stepson Ken. In later years, Dave discovered a love for golf, enjoying many rounds with friends and family. He was also a true outdoorsman who found great joy in fishing and hunting.
Dave met the love of his life, Kristen, while they were co-workers at Fisherman's Wharf in Castaic. Their relationship grew into a lifelong partnership, and they were married in 1984. They remained devoted to one another until Kristen's passing in 2017. Dave was an attentive and loving husband who embraced Kristen's children as his own. He became a steady and caring presence in their lives, helping raise Kari, Karla, and Ken with patience, kindness, and unwavering support.
In 1983, Dave began his career in the oil industry. Through hard work and determination, he steadily advanced from a laborer to a business owner. In recent years, he became a part owner of Western Fishing Services, a role that reflected both his dedication to his work and the respect he earned from those around him.
Dave will be remembered for his gentle nature, steady presence, and the deep care he showed for his family and friends. He had a quiet strength and a patient heart that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Dave is survived by his three stepchildren: Kari Locke-Nash (Darrin), Karla Neal (Steve), and Ken Evanoff; his brothers Mike (Ellen), Terry (Debbie), and Brian; and his beloved grandchildren Kristen, Katie, Kailyn, Jack, Anna, Sarah, Kaleb, Conner, Brady, and Madison. He was also the proud great-grandfather of four and is lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kristen K. Etzler; his parents, Gary and Bonnie Etzler; and his nephew, Jonn Etzler.
Dave's memory will live on in the lives he helped shape, the family he loved deeply, and the many friends who shared in his laughter, stories, and time outdoors.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Apr 19, 2026at 1:00 pm at Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach.
