Written by Ron:
Like the animals of the woodland or the flower on the hillside, there is a beginning and an end. At this age of 87, my time and place allotted me: I hope I have given back more than I have received.
Born at the family homestead in 1936 in the Township of West Windsor, I was raised on a family working farm. Awarded an apprenticeship position as a steamfitter with Local 380 Plumbers and Steamfitters, Princeton, New Jersey attaining the rank of Journeyman in 1960. The opportunity to work and serve the North Central New Jersey area in completion of numerous schools, research laboratories, projects at Princeton University, jobbing at numerous private homes and a lifetime of craft enjoyment into my later years.
Married my classmate, Janet Marie Hill (Princeton High School, Class of 1955) a marriage proud to say lasting over 63 years.
Joining the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company at 18, serving for over 30 years in many leadership positions. I redirected my volunteer talents at this point to the Mercer County 4-H organization. I thank the State of New Jersey 4-H Council for awarding both my wife and I as Alumni Recipients for 1983. A 4-H member of the Yardville Jr. Dairy Club at the age of 10, purchasing a Holstein Heifer and as an adult became a 4-H leader for several years. As a Presbyterian there was a calling within my church so after I retired, I helped to maintain this facility. As project manager along with committee members I worked to upgrade our facilities within our church properties. I also served as a member of the Session. Another enjoyable accomplishment was working with seven young Boy Scouts in completing their Eagle Scout Projects. Into my later years, I volunteered working to keep "The First Presbyterian Church of Dutch Neck" a place of worship and a place where all could gather.
At 14 years of age, woodworking and birding was an interest which became a hobby, something that I enjoyed over a lifetime. Serving as a woodworking leader with 4-H my lads received numerous first place awards and it has been a wonderful experience to see them turn into fine young gentlemen. Birding has attracted me, drawing my attention into the woods and field where enjoyment was found in erecting many nesting dwellings.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Dutch Neck, 154 South Mill Road, West Windsor NJ 08550, to be followed by a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall.
Interment in Dutch Neck Presbyterian Church Cemetery will be private.
