David H. Fleeger, 78, of Karns City, passed away peacefully at home in the company of his family Thursday evening, Nov. 6, 2025.
David was born in Mt. Clemens, Mich., on March 11, 1947. He was the son of the late John M. and Marian L. Potts Fleeger.
He was a 1965 graduate of Fairview Township, Karns City High School and was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country in Vietnam and was stationed in Thailand with Stratcom. David was a life member of the former VFW Post in Chicora and a member and past commander of Post 642 American Legion in Chicora. David was a well- known master of ceremonies for Chicora's Memorial Day Parade and a faithful participant with the post's funeral honor guard. He was a member of Chicora Moose Lodge. As a youth, David was active in Scouting and was honored as an Eagle Scout in 1962. In his earlier years, he enjoyed attending his children's sporting events - including helping coach his daughter's softball and pom pom teams and his son's soccer team. He also enjoyed golfing, woodworking, gardening and doing projects around the house. Following retirement, David and his wife enjoyed cruises and traveling, including trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, the national parks of the Western United States, Alaska, New England, New Orleans and Brazil. During a special trip to California in 2018, they attended the Rose Bowl Parade.
David earned an associate degree in mathematics from Butler County Community College. He was employed for almost 41 years as an electrical and instrumentation supervisor at Witco/Sonneborn in Petrolia. During the course of his employment he continued his education, attending various seminars and certification classes throughout the country. He retired in 2016.
Surviving is his wife, Ruth Ann McCloskey Fleeger, whom he married at St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church in Meridian on Jan. 30, 1971. Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon A. and Paul Moyer, of Karns City; a son and daughter-in-law, Zachary D. and Taylor Fleeger, of North Conway, N.H.; three grandchildren, Dalton Moyer and Archer and Sterling Fleeger; two great-grandchildren, Weston and Aubrie Moyer; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Fleeger, of Butler; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and David Rodgers, of Chicora, a sister-in-law, Deborah Fleeger, of Karns City; a foreign exchange student from Brazil, Daniel Thuronyi, whom David proudly called "his number two son"; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard "Dick" Fleeger; and a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
FLEEGER - Friends of David H. Fleeger, who died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, will be received from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at HILE FUNERAL HOME of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City. Military honors will be held from the funeral home at 2:45 p.m. by members of Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legion Posts.
Interment will be in Hillview Cemetery in the Village of Kepple's Corners.
