David Forth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by William H. Clark Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 15, 2024.
David Selwyn Forth, 92, of Hamilton Township, died early Monday morning, February 12, 2024, while under hospice care in his home. He was the husband of the late Allison Jane (Thompson) Forth with whom he shared 58 years of marriage at the time of her death on January 17, 2014.
Born on January 28, 1932 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late John and Marjorie (Baker) Forth and lived in Monroe County since 1969 moving from Canada.
David was a college professor teaching first in Canada and then at East Stroudsburg University from where he retired in 1997. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling abroad with his wife, especially to England. His passion, for over 40 years, was playing bridge and for the last 8 years competitively with one of his daughters and a grandchild. David obtained his Ruby Life Master. He also enjoyed ''kitchen'' bridge with other family members, including Canadian relatives. Having family gatherings, following his grandchildren's activities, being a hopeful yet often disappointed NY Mets fan, and completing hundreds of jigsaw puzzles made up another large part of his life. David also volunteered as a 4H leader and was president of a local horse show association showing a deep commitment to his children's involvement in horse shows at the local level. Immersing himself in helping his daughter pursue photography, by converting the upstairs bathroom into a darkroom. He also attended dog agility trials, including at the National level in Tennessee and Florida. Drove hours for his son to go to New York City and Connecticut to get the highest caliber French horn instruction which was pivotal in his son's eventual graduation from a music conservatory. He was also involved in the community, assisting in running a couple of local bridge clubs, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, stepping up to be president of the local club when requested.
Surviving are a son, Christopher Forth and wife Barbara of East Stroudsburg, twin daughters, Gillian Chase of Saylorsburg and Susan Hagler and husband Lawson of Brenard, NC; five grandchildren, two step granddaughters, and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Reginald Forth, and a sister, Elizabeth Forth.
A private graveside service with the family will take place at Keller's Cherry Valley Cemetery.
