David James Freriks, 72, of New Lexington, Ohio passed away peacefully at 2:52 AM, Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Genesis Hospice Morrison House surrounded by his loving family. He was born Thursday, September 24, 1953 in Zanesville, the eldest son of the late James and Wilma (nee: Combs) Freriks. David retired from UPS after 25 years of service. Prior to his tenure at UPS, he had worked in the Freriks Family businesses which included Southside Carry-out, Gem Ice Cream and the Jolly Bar which were all located in Crooksville. David served as Chairman of the Perry County Republican Central Committee and later, served as Perry County Commissioner from 2012 through 2018 where he worked diligently to serve his county. In his leisure time, David enjoyed trap shooting, bass fishing and helping work with children at the Southeastern Ohio Sportsman’s Association in Crooksville where he was an integral part of the planning, preparation and execution of their annual ‘Kids Day’ event. He loved helping and teaching the kids about shooting, hunting and enjoying the outdoors. David, himself, was an avid hunter, hunting deer, squirrel and grouse. In addition, David was a member of the former Church of The Atonement Catholic Church and Peerless Lodge 591, F & A M Masonic Lodge. David was a tireless worker in everything he did. He was a beloved husband, step-dad, grandpa, brother and friend to so many. He will be sadly missed. Left behind to mourn his passing is his beloved wife of 17 years, Cindy Sue (Morris) Freriks whom he married on May 24, 2008; his step-son, Rusty Davis; his darling granddaughter, Audrey Layne Davis and his siblings, Debbie Fisher, Michael and Cathy Freriks, Tim and Lisa Freriks and Bobbi and Glen Holcomb. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jack Fisher; his nieces, Alyssa and Carly Rae Freriks and his cousin Roxanne (Kem) Dalrymple. The Freriks family will hold a private visitation. David will be laid to rest in Mt. Horeb Cemetery. Family and friends are all invited for a celebration of David’s life at 2 PM, Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the Southeastern Ohio Sportsman’s Association, 12762 Twp Rd 6 A, Crooksville, OH. Contributions may be made in memory of David to Southeastern Ohio Sportsman’s Association c/o T & K Guns, 3375 Thompson Run Rd., Zanesville, OH 43701 or the Perry County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center, 1650 Commerce Dr., New Lexington, OH 43764. Envelopes will be available at the Sportsman’s Association gathering.
