David Garlie Obituary

Northfield - Dr. David Adolph Garlie passed away peacefully at the age of 83 with his wife and family by his side on December 15, 2024, at the Northfield Hospital.

David was born February 22, 1941, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Dr. Adolph O. and Marion Alice (Perra) Garlie. He was raised in Northfield where he attended Northfield High School and was an outstanding wrestler. David graduated from Northfield High School in 1959 and went on to the University of Wisconsin - River Falls to do his undergraduate in Veterinary Science. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Veterinary Medicine and returned to Northfield to continue the practice started by his father.

On June 15, 1967, David married Barbara A. Peterson at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. After marriage they built their home in rural Northfield where they raised their family. He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his wife and children.

David continued to practice veterinary medicine until retiring in 2017. He was deeply committed to his veterinary practice. The people who worked with him over the years and the loyal clients were like family. He truly loved and appreciated them all.

David enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. He enjoyed raising a variety of animals on their hobby farm. He was a 50+ year member of the Caballeros Del Norte Horse Club and a former member of the Northfield Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, bowling, golfing, riding horses, skiing, and scuba diving.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Barbara; his children Mark of Northfield, Matt (Leah) of Northfield, Suzanne Keuler of Waukesha, WI, David Jr. (Holly) of Lakeville; 8 grandchildren Prescott, Emerson, Clayton, Rhett, Jacob, Ava, Brody, and Lincoln; his brother Tom of Florida; his sisters Marianne (Tim) Moe of Alexandria, Ginger of Stillwater; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
